The Impact of Impact Jax Education Initiative
“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember,
involve me and I learn.†Benjamin Franklin
Impact Jax Education Initiative the first of its kind has
made significant strides in creating a mentoring program
that involves young professionals throughout
Jacksonville, Florida. The goal is to collaborate with
young professionals of various professions to become
involved in schools in the Duval County
Public School system as mentors.
The Impact Jax Education Initiative is not a duplication
of any other mentoring program, but a unique entity that
will provide workshops to students at Robert E. Lee High
School, http://lee.duvalschools.org/ (http://lee.duvalschools.org/) on subjects that range
from social interaction, social media, personal finance,
writing, and other educational and social disciplines that
students will use as they transition from high school to
higher education.
“True education does not consist merely in the acquiring
of a few facts of science, history, literature, or art, but in
the development of character.†David O. McKay
The selection of Robert E. Lee High School was done
with planning, academic need of students, administrative
support and the school’s reputation of innovation as the
first national model for original college ready early
programs where students can earn a AA or AS college
degree before graduating and earning a high school
diploma. Lee is also a Magnet School under the leadership
of Principal Dr. Denise Hall a veteran administrator in
Duval County Public Schools. Lee High School is not
just an educational institution of academic focus, but
understands the holistic approach to education and
family involvement. As a teacher of over 20 years and
community activist I encourage other teachers and
young business professionals to use their experience
in education, social awareness and community
involvement to participate as a mentor.
“The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to
be kindled.†Plutarch
The participants of Impact Jax are “fired up†to be the
best mentors that will provide support and encouragement
to the students that need that extra voice of encouragement,
students that need an ear of listening and words of wisdom.
