Hello fine members of Metro Jacksonville.
Bike Jax is looking forward to being a contributing member of this fine forum.
Jacksonville is a diverse and widely varied land mass located on one of the most beautiful rivers in the world and a coastline with miles of beaches. We intend on making sure cyclists are able to easily access these amenities as well as neighborhoods by way of safe, cheap, clean and quiet transportation alternatives, including: clean fuel buses, light rail, pedestrian walkways and bike routes and lanes.

I have for sometime enjoyed all the vital information on and about the city provided by contributors here. It is our (Bike Jax) to work with other groups and individuals to promote alternative and intelligent mass transit (read, BRT only as a supplement to light rail) use in Jacksonville. And that all modes of transportation work in conjunction with one another.
Whoo hoo, another bike fan! ;D

Thanks for Drews site. I looked all over for it. I had planned to give Drew a call and get it.
You have my total support... Jacksonville has the potential to be so much more than just "being the largest village with two highways running through it."
Our river, intercoastal, beaches, nature, parks and the downtown possibilities would make every other city in the US jealous..... lets make things happen!

We're looking to organize rides/events once he's settled into his new place at King and Park. He has plenty of parking space now and the location makes for a great meeting/starting point for recreational as well as training rides.
i'll be down for rides as well. did the ms 150 last year and doing it again this year...need a lot of training rides.
Bikejax,
great service you are providing with that blog. Big thumbs up.

I'm coordinating the MS150 ride for my workplace this year and we'll be doing training rides out of City Cycle. I'll have more info once the MS Walk is over (it's on the 29th). Until then though, we just started the Saturday morning ride again. The first one was last weekend. We leave from City Cycle and ride through Avondale down through Ortega and over Roosevelt around Timiquana. It's about a 24 mile ride with two small bridges and the average pace is around 19-22 mph. It's a no-drop ride so if you can't keep up, someone will always fall back to help you along. If my husband and some of our other racer friends are there, then they will ride up ahead at an average 24-27 mph pace. So there's variety if feel like you need a butt-kicking ;)
Oh, we also do Acosta bridge repeats on Thursday nights if you want to improve your climbing skills. I'll be organizing a beginner's ride to take place on Monday nights as soon as I can figure a good route. I'd like to do something through downtown and into Springfield (visually appealing areas) that loops back into Riverside, but I haven't really found anything where we don't have a lot of stops. If anyone knows of a route like that, let me know!
I lived in a city in Canada that was connected from north to south and east to west with a long double wide bike path for bikers and skaters to enjoy that ran past parklands and lakes and was awesome. Calgary Alberta Canada. It would be neat if a US city would do this also. At anyone time you could go and see tons of people enjoying it and best of all it was free. Although I am sure the tax payers had something to do with it at some point.
thanks for making me look so cccccoooooooooooooooolllllll.
;D
