What you won't hear about is the 450(1000?)DUI's that JSO is counting on tonight...This is a BIG money making weekend.
I haven't looked into the current booking dollars given to Wackenhut or whatever Cooperate prison company is downtown..but I seem to remember about $850 per person back from 2002....If you are arrested in Jax you WILL go downtown for "Processing" no exceptions and no talking JSO out of it.

What are you talking about?  There is no extra DUI effort tonight.  There IS a push towards leniancy in the DT area for visitors.  Normal rules for arresting those with no local address are suspended in favor of written citations.  The DT jail is operated by JSO corrections deputies.  Wackenhut does not operate in the jail.  And of course, if you are arrested you will go downtown to be booked, just like in every other county in the nation.

Your DUI numbers are WAAAAYYY inflated.  Why are you always talking trash about JSO?   Why would you come up with these kinds of stories?

JSO is just like most law enforcement agencies across the country. They bank on arrests & citations to get them the funding they need to continue the process, create industry, jobs, etc. And they need to show they're doing a "good job" by doing that. Thats just the way that it is. Of course they never say that & always play the "safety" angle (which has some legitimacy in certain situations), but still. Its a game we all play. Same with most drug laws, same with seatbelt violations at $150 a pop, same with things like the dog & pony show at airports/TSA, etc. Again, some legitimacy here & there. But a lot of it is bullshit.

So yeah, you can bet they're looking for arrests & citations with events like this, even if they don't officially come out & say it. Why wouldn't they? Its easy money & they know that people are gonna be drinking & celebrating, who likely drove in since they really didn't have a choice not to.

Speaking of that, if they truly cared about "safety", then why not give people more options to keep them off the roads in the first place (like transit)? I mean, that would nip it right in the bud, right?? ;) But of course, its not really about that now is it. And if you took a lot of cars out of the equation, then the agency doesn't collect all the money its used to, people lose jobs, etc. Again, its a game we all play.

There's no "prison", privately owner or otherwise, downtown. And you don't go to prison immediately for a DUI. It's the county jail. And JSO is absolutely, 100% beyond doubt more lenient on FL-GA weekend, or there would be thousands of people in jail.

^Looks like it from the description on what went down. Pretty much why I don't attend most sporting events. Way WAY too many redneck losers that I have no interest in being around.

That and I personally find it a complete waste of time (esp college sports). I guess thats sorta the point, but still. When you think about it, isn't the whole thing kinda silly? Cheering for a bunch of college kids that I don't know playing a sport at a school that I have little to no affiliation with. Why do I care? And I certainly wouldn't fight over it or even get into heated discussions about it. Thats just about the stupidest shit ever.

The fight itself looked like a bunch of drunken bs, it doesn't look like the injuries are probably that serious. Seems pretty clear the skinny guy probably aspirated a bunch of water when he was thrown in the pond face-down, and anytime you're having difficulty breathing they call rescue, and rescue will usually transport unless by then you're breathing well enough to argue with them. I think this was probably a news overreaction. FWIW having been to Florida Georgia in person many times, there is a fight every 20 minutes if you're tailgating. As I got older, for some odd reason drinking out of coolers in a parking lot lost its allure, I just watch the game on tv now.

Unless something has changed, JSO really was noticeably lenient on these weekends, they'll usually kick one or the other or both guys out, but they avoid arresting people if they can. This one was different, because the guy had to be transported.
