Title: Events other than FL/GA this weekend?
Post by: friedturkey on October 26, 2012, 09:59:38 AM
Have some out of towners visiting me and was thinking about taking the trolley from Riverside to downtown and walk around RV city.  Is there anything else besides FL/GA going on this weekend I could bring them to?  Anything happening in 5pts that I could could bring them to?  I remember the movie theatre used to play the game, but I didn't see it on their website.

There's plenty to do for people who don't care about the pedestrian minor-league noise that is college football ;). Even so, FL-GA is a hell of a spectacle and there's a lot going on outside of the game. Underbelly will have a great show on tonight. RAM and then Intuition will be hosting a Thriller-themed charity event. Food trucks will be down by the stadium tonight. Expect the landing to be insane through Sunday. I'm sure many many places will be playing the game.

Check out the Historic Springfield Main Street Cruise from 5 pm to 9 pm on Main Street between 1st and 10th.

Phil Amato will have a segment on the cruise on the cruise on tonight's First Coast News between 5 and 6.

Uptown Market will be open for dinner, and several food trucks including On the Fly and Dagwood's will be at 4th and Main.

DJ Lon Greenwood will be at 4th and Main as well, and he'll be simulcasting on FM 95.5 so you can listen while you cruise.

Sustainable Springfield will have an Oktoberfest in the Community Garden directly behind the Main Street Car Wash (also at 4th and Main) with three different kinds of Intuition beer.  Half of their proceeds will support community gardens and other urban agriculture projects; the other half will fund a Main Street beautification project.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I actually saw a "GO BULLDOGS" on the CT1 Bus destination sign heading down Dunn Ave. Maybe Jax (JTA in particular) is growing up afterall by actually being neutral, which is a good idea being that this game is played on a neutral site. That's the difference between looking like a Gator hick town, or being a savvy sports city that invites the fans of both teams.
