Title: Don Redman responds to his critics; uses spell check this time.
Post by: duvalbill on October 23, 2012, 10:48:56 AM
Per Jacksonville.com

The subject of amending the Human Rights Ordinance has brought much debate from both sides of the issue.

I have received many emails from supporters and opponents of the legislation.

In a letter to the editor, Pete Hull chose to call our decision to vote against the ordinance “stupid.”
He implies that a vote against the ordinance means we do not know right from wrong.

Most people who are misguided or miserable will insult others.

I did not state he was misguided or miserable, but he did sound like a misguided or miserable person.
Hull could use our prayers.

I am hopeful these prayers could lift Hull’s spirit.

One who criticizes me so harshly should not be so sensitive to a reply offering prayer.

I do not support discrimination, but I also do not want to overburden businesses with a bunch of unneeded or cumbersome rules and regulations.

During all the discussion concerning this ordinance, I was not convinced that we have a problem with discrimination in Jacksonville based on sexual orientation.

It is time to move on to others issues facing our city.

We have spent more than enough time on this one.

Reply to Ron Littlepage’s comments on Oct. 19:

I am amazed at how the name “Jesus” irritates some people, including the Times-Union’s Littlepage.
Those of us who follow God’s word and pray in Jesus Christ’s name as our Lord and Savior aren’t offended by other religions and would not be offended by them praying to their God.

Everyone should have the right to pray and worship in any form or fashion they would like without restriction.
This is exactly what I was trying to convey to Parvez Ahmed when I asked him to pray at the City Council meeting.
Just because we pray differently does not mean we should force them to restrict or alter their prayer or personal belief.

My faith leads me to pray in the name of Jesus Christ.

You will notice when I open a public meeting in prayer, I use the words “I pray in the name of Jesus Christ.” I do not say, “We pray in the name of Jesus Christ”.

I do this because I understand that all people do not live by the same religious faith that I do.

I served our country in the Navy for four years to fight for the right so that every person can worship or not worship and pray to whatever god they wish.

Our council president knows what he is doing.

Because of Littlepage and others who are offended by the use of the name “Jesus,” we now pray prior to convening and after adjournment of council meetings.

It is time for everyone to give this issue a rest.

We all have our own faiths and beliefs. Everyone should be allowed to exercise theirs the way they see fit.

Don you completely miss the point:

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.  Matthew 6:6

Don, at a PUBLIC meeting, you represent ALL of your constituents, NONE of which care who you pray to.  Do all your praying at home and bring yourself to the meeting ready to work.

Your steadfast resolve in the matter just illustrates what a religious kook you are.

Does this guy not have a handler or an assistant that filters him??  He has restored none of his image from this editorial.  I have seen almost identical tactics used by a 2nd grader when they thought they were in trouble.  "But Mr David, I didn't say he WAS stupid, I said he was ACTING stupid".

Redman is a first class idiot and an embarassment to this city that we love.

He is the epitome of what is wrong with Jacksonville and what is holding us back. He is the walking stereotype that many have of "Cowford".

Absolutely. Don doesn't seem to get it that nobody wants to censor his freedom of speech - nobody is offended by the name of Jesus - it's just that there is city government, and there are your religious beliefs, and never the twain should meet. Pray at home that your city council meeting goes well, don't go all Jerry Fallwell at what is supposed to be the meetings of the council of a large metropolitan area.

How one city can be so big and yet still so small-town mystifies me.

Redman isn't completely without merit, He supports bike riders rights; and he did vote to restore the library's funding when some extra money was found.

However,  he's had some of the worst and most destructive ideas in recent memory. He birngs very little to the table.
but
then you get real idiots like Gafferney, Gulliford, Clark, Shelengburg, I could name at least 8 more, have nothing positive to help make our city better.

Sorry for the the way this looks. the goddamn space bar won't space without erasing what's in front of it. It's a glorified delete botton. Does anyone know how I can fix it?

(CNN) -- 5/17/2007 The Rev. Jerry Falwell, the television minister whose 1979 founding of the Moral Majority galvanized American religious conservatives into a political force, died Tuesday at age 73.

Better hope to hell you don't go to Jerry Falwell, he's been dead for 6 years!
