The Beach Blvd. Kmart is closing. You can add it to the list of old strip centers that need to be redeveloped.

Damn. That K-Mart has been there since the beginning of time - almost.
Hope Piccadilly & Jiffy Lube dont follow.
I have long wondered how that store stayed in business. Sad to see it go, but on the other hand, this site looks to be a prime redevelopment opportunity.
^Got to agree with you. I'm surprised its lasted this long.
Unfortunate about the layoffs, but jeez, that place was a dump and I never saw over 20 cars in the parking lot. No idea how they made it to 2012.

I'm surprised Piccadilly isn't gone already? Jacksonville only has the Piccadilly's on University and Ramona Blvd left and they hang on by a thread. :(
Cannot believe Piccadilly is still in business!
I feel for the people losing their jobs. Cannot see that corner being revived any time soon.
I will agree that the Store has seen better days and am surprised it held on this long.

I live not far from there and I agree - nobody is reviving anything over here anytime soon. That whole center is a pit of despair.
Scrape it off. Plant trees.

I always liked Morrison's better, anyway. Made me mad when Picadilly bought em out.

An excellent idea. It will never work, though, because it makes too much sense.
Maybe a for-profit diploma mill will buy and renovate the place, like Virginia College* did with the old Albertson's/Rowe's across the street. Or how Kaplan College recycled the old Sticks N Stuff/Helig Meyers farther down Beach Blvd.
*the last time I checked, Virginia College is headquartered in Alabama and has NO locations in Virginia.

I believe when Morrison's was in business they had one at the old Roosevelt mall. But the Picadilly that was in the Regency Sq Mall to me was the best but it's long gone as is the one that stood alone outside Regency Sq Mall. S & S cafeteria's have left Florida all together I believe. You have to go up to Macon Ga to find a couple still open there.
Im surpirsed any Kmart is open at the point. The one Blanding is a ghost town.

The Morrison's near Regency was very good, too. Going WAY back, Morrison's also had locations downtown, at Gateway Mall, and Southgate Plaza.
I remember S&S, but never ate there.

I do not remember the Morrison's Downtown my parents never took us to the Gateway Mall or Southgate Plaza Morrison's. We went to the Morrison's that at one time was at the Orange Park Mall and Roosevelt Mall. And the special treat was the Picadilly at the Regency Sq Mall. I remember when lunch or dinner was done we would take our trays with the dirty plates and glasses over to the conveyor belt and watch the tray till it disappeared. :) And S & S cafeteria was over at Cedars Hills Shopping Ctr but I only ate there as an adult. The Sign still stands in the Cedar Hills parking lot today. :)
^^Thats one more thing kids today are gonna miss: Watching the dirty dishes go down the conveyor belt :D
I did the same thing as a kid, and always wondered where they went.
Getting back on topic, the KMart on Beach once had a restaurant in it - but no conveyor belt for the dishes. Maybe thats why it closed ;)
