Title: The Fenimore
Post by: konstantconsumer on June 12, 2007, 12:09:14 PM
Has anyone lived in these apartments?  How is it?  I love the building.

Sorry for digging up an old post, but I lived in the Fenimore in 1994-1995. The building is great, but the owners do not keep it up. This building could be awesome.

Isnt the Fenimore the 3 story historic apartment building at the corner of Copeland and Riverside?  If so, I have always admired that building also.  I wish the owners would cut back some of the vegetation around the structure though so it could be better seen.

Yes, that is the Fenimore. The owners are old and dont care, or dont want to spend any money. Hopefully whoever inherits this building down the road will spruce it up. Supposedly from what I have heard, they live in the last 3 apartments on the end (furthest from Copeland), and they live on 2 floors and their pets live on the other floor. Go figure.

Well, hopefully they will move and sell soon then.  It could be a gem of the neighborhood instead of the quasi-eyesore it is now.

BTW, any idea how many apartments are in there?

Facing Copeland there are 6 "2br/1ba" units, but I heard its more like 1.5br. All the others facing Riverside ave are 1br/1ba, and there are approx 15 I think.  They all have a fireplace, and a balcony, and decent size kitchen, living room, and bedroom. All the rooms are good size, about 15x15 or so.

Great pic. They could look that nice again with a bit of clean up. I lived on the 3rd floor, 2nd balcony from the right.

If someone could post a pic from the same spot to compare before and after...

Here is the best I could get from about the same spot with my iPhone. Definately hard to see any of the building because of all the overgrown trees and bushes.

Thanks man... While I almost never condone cutting down trees... seems to be a needed evil in this case.

I have a friend who lives in the corner apartment facing copeland & riverside. It definately hasn't been rennovated anytime recently, has the 10 layers of white paint riverside apts are known for, old oldkitchen and hardwood floors in disrepair and yeah it's def your old school riverside apt. . But the rent's really cheap, plus you're like a block from the river so it's not bad for the money.

It's def charming though, you have the traffic of riverside ave right outside the window and I could hear conversations from all the foot traffic nearby.

I lived in the carriage house directly next to the Fenmore for 5 years. The old lady that owns it is pretty far gone.  She has entire outdoor garage/ storage area full to the brim with cat food. The neighbors warned me that if my cat got out she would keep her and hide her from me.

It's a shame the building as withered away to it's current state... I predict an investment group scooping it up, rehabbing it and renting again in the next few years.

interesting that this has now been replied to.  i actually have lived in the fenimore for about a year now.  it's definitely a bit shabby, but overall it's a great building to live in.  they allow large dogs, which was a necessity for me.  plus, the rooms are giant.  free water too, which is especially nice since heat is provided by water furnaces.  my electric during the non-summer months is usually under 30 bucks!
