OK, I Know this has to stay in business somehow, but some of these new video pop up ads take forever to load whilst waiting for the actual reason I came here. It is really sucking the desire out. Not everyone can afford a smoking hot HS connection these days. I'm one of those on a tight budget and am using my phones 3g for modem at home. Sorry in advance for the vent.
No need to vent. I got hit with another one and they are annoying. I'm working on strategies to diversify the site's revenue streams, which will help us cut back on the ads, as we speak.

Thanks Lake (and staff) for addressing this so quickly.
While at work, all of the video/flash content is blocked out so I have no issues. At home though, I get hit with all these videos and I'm like "where the hell did these come from?" LoL
As always - thanks to all staff/volunteers for keeping this good thing going!
Try out http://www.metrojacksonville.com/mobile to save bandwidth.
Good to hear its being fixed. If this "Come visit St. Lucia" ad pops up one more time!!!
Thanks for your patience, everyone. There is some kind of glitch with this campaign. Our ads are set up so that audio ads do NOT auto play. We've disabled st. lucia on our ad servers but they keep coming back to haunt the site.
Trying to figure out the issue now.

I'm probably partly to blame. I keep clicking on it, hoping that it gives metrojacksonville some money via ad-sense or whatever...and all the while, I have no plans to visit St. Lucia. Take that!, you small Caribbean island with a tourist based economy.

thanks Lake!
Looks like the problem is solved. Post here if it happens again. Thanks,
I use a couple of Firefox addons called AdBlockerPlus. Never, ever see a pop-up ad on any site.
Wait a second.....everyone was getting that St. Lucia ad!??!?
I thought that was just targeted marketing. I spent 1/4 of my day looking at travel websites/deals. Weird.
I'm usually fine with large/obnoxious ads on websites...it's only when an audio/visual pops up and blocks a portion of my screen that I get mad about it.
Glad to hear it's gone, though.
Not an ad problem, but a slowness problem.
Has anyone else been having trouble loading forum threads? Whether I'm opening one, or posting, or going to/fro, it's so slow that it takes over 1-2 minutes to load. I keep having to push "reload"--driving me insane.
Me too, Ben, but I figured the slowness was just so many people discovering the site that it was running slowly. And often when I click a link, the entire page fails to load. If it drives me crazy, I just go away and come back another time.
Hey thanks for the mobile link. I'll probably love it like the eBay and Craigslist apps.
Ad Block Plus is my friend.
No slow loads. No ads either.
Click some stinkin' ads.
Spread the love! Where else to you get to see Lake and Ock debate transit issues? Where else do we see such exchange of ideas? This site is far beyond indispensable. Every so often, act interested in the ads of your favorite sites. When you're seriously considering a purchase, research it, and watch ads for said product or service magically appear at your interwebs watering holes.
Click the danged things. MJ costs money and requires dedication from it's contributors and mods. Let the principles make $12.00 a year from it. Don't make them pay to keep it here.
So click already.
@ Ben. The load times were my complaint. thought it was the flash and my lousy speed connection
Good point, Buckethead. The ads I'm seeing pop up are nowhere nearly as interesting as St. Lucia. But I'll try to be more "click friendly" and generate some income.
