Title: Derby on Park
Post by: 5ptscurmudgeon on September 04, 2012, 11:23:17 AM
Rolled by post church on Sunday and noticed one of the owners out working under new portico. I yelled "I'm Hungry!"  He yelled back "2 weeks"

Always had great meals at Secret Garden until recently. The new owners are just not quite executing it.

Finally!!!?  Shows what hiring the wrong contractor can do to you.  Fourteen months to remodel is ridiculous.

So it's taken them 14 months to open but they don't have a website or menu available online, what gives?

Is it just me or, driving by, does the deck look really dark and cave-like??? I know they want service out there rain or shine, but I wish they opened it up a bit.

Went for lunch today. Sat in the outside area. It is a little dark back in there but it did not seem too bad
for the middle of the day. The place looks great, overall, in my opinion.  Food was tasty. I will definately return.
Had a very cool small bar in the outdoor area, by the way.

I think the deck area is going to be the late night gathering place and lighted accordingly so dark during the day isn't so much.  They could always add some of those tube skylight things too.

Anyone know where I can find a menu? Didn't see one on their Facebook page and their website isn't up and running yet.

The menu is still being finalized during this soft opening period to work out the kinks so it is not available online yet.

I'm really starting to think Ben doesn't even go to restaurants.  He just wants to know how they are.... Just in Case.

Not a fan of Cool Moose? I'd take that over the Fox or Murray Hill options...I admit it's hit or miss, but normally it's not half bad

Other than that, I agree...no breakfast options.

Haven't been to Cool Moose recently, but their omelettes are dry and flavorless.

I've had a bad meal at Cool Moose more than once. Definitely not saying they're the answer to our lack-of-options woes. But, they do a few things very well, i.e. the corned beef hash.

I will say I had a GREAT omelet on baguette today at Tres Leches.

I've had more bad meals (usually breakfast) at Fox than Cool Moose & Crazy Egg combined. I usually skip Fox altogether these days. Too expensive for what you get & too hit or miss.

Place looked like it had a crowd whenever I drove by this past weekend.  Will have to check it out on my next visit.

+1. The corned beef hash at the moose is the best I've found. If you go there often, you out to pop up and say hi to your fellow sharks, the office is directly overhead. Problem with the moose is they're closed on Mondays, it royally sucks when I'm already dragging and realize I can't get my coffee and bagel. I keep forgetting tres leches moved over here, are they open Monday's?

I'll definitely do that--had no idea you worked in the building. Don't go by the Moose too often (only when I'm dying for some hash), but next time I go, I'll run upstairs afterwards.

Tres opens at 9 a.m. on Mondays. I think they're going to start opening up at 8:30. Pretty overpriced, but if you order right, you'll leave happy. I think the omelet on baguette is only $5--a steal compared to the rest of the menu.

Thirding the quality of Cool Moose's hash. I also like their breakfast sandwiches. Everything else is pretty blah, though.

I was going to list a bunch of places with great breakfast (Biscotti's, Blue Fish, Pele's for some, Brick, etc), but I realize I only go to them on weekends and, wouldn't you know it, that's the only time they are open (I least these regardless of how one might feel about them based on Mellow Mushroomings).

You can get breakfast at Gina's (5points and Murray Hill, actually), Tres Leches, the recently opened Sweet Theory (for a sweets breakfast, next to Whiteway, closed on Monday), Pine Grove, The Fox (mentioned previously and totally over-hyped), Goal Post, and Two Doors Down and Johnny's deli if I'm allowed to count places that far out (not sure if Johnny's is open weekdays for breakfast though  :(). Crazy Egg is fantastic though.

Like Chris mentioned, I am depressed every time I walk by the 'Moose on Monday and its closed. Monday is THE day I most want a ridiculously unhealthy muffin. Incidentally, Burrito Gallery on Sunday AND Monday, its a travesty!

Me too - I sat by the window with a friend from out of town who was enamored with his front row seat / watching people try to steer though the "Flashing Gauntlet"......

The bar seats need work - the stools are too far from the counter & there isn't a step/kick for your feet so you sort of just dangle & spin.  Certainly minor & they indicated that a fix was in the works.

I've been for dinner & breakfast - yet to be disappointed.
