This is just the thing I want to see before I start my 8 hour work day.
King Street has been and will always be my favorite place in town. Ever since Bold City opened I have been on "The Street" at least once a week. Once Intuition opened, it was game over (proud Mug Club Member #125). The Garage and Beer 30 are two great additions that add another dimension to the street that helps round out the experience.
Unfortunately, Ben is right that this progress could abruptly stop due to councilman Love's ordinance. Everyone on here agrees that King Street has much more potential for growth between Herschel and Post, but this ordinance will make some of that growth impossible. First guaranty has such a large piece of the street and at some point I am sure they will want to offload at least some of it. We need to be ready for that and make sure there isn't legislation that prevents that site from having its optimal use.

Very true. There have got to be some better candidates to run for City Council in Riverside and downtown next time, hell in Jacksonville in general. Get rid of him, Donald Redmond and Kimberly Daniels.

For those who remember, UTA used to run a fleet of these around the Salt Lake area from 1981 until the late 1990's.
The only problem with this faux trolleys is that they generally are a waste of money. Its as the designers of these things actually think people will be fooled into thinking it was some type of old trolley.
To make matters worse these things are very uncomfortable to ride in which is why they are used only on shuttles and relatively short operations. The seats are made of wood although they do offer cushions to make the seats more comfortable.
The problem with these buses is they do not attract any more passengers than a standard bus. The Spokane Transit Authority uses these buses on their Arena Shuttle. As part of making Wall Street a pedestrian mall, the decision was made to use these faux trolleys. However, except for a few novelty riders, ridership remains static even when regular buses had to be substituted for the faux trolleys for an extended period of time.
The Faux Trolley is money better spent in other more important transportation endeavors.

"those downtown bus-trolleys going up and down," will do absolutely NOTHING for urbanized growth. The PCT Trolley's (What JTA calls them after my widely circulated 'Potato Chip Truck's' comments. Some cheap plywood, lacquered brass plate, fake stained glass, wood welded steel wheel wells, steering wheel, and fake 'authentic' wood slat seats (real streetcars generally used wicker/cane, velvet and leather seats), the here today-gone tomorrow nature of buses and their very short life expectancy all conspire to render these things as junk. Tourists in cities all over the country have been duped into 'riding the smoke belching PCT trolley's.' When they find out there are no trolley's, the let down is audible. It's like visiting the Kentucky Derby only to find they've replaced the horses with dime store rides.
The streetcar is ready for a phase II study, phase I is already done, and the funding is lined up through our mobility plan. Bone heads in City Council decided a moratorium on mobility (impact) fee's would grow the city faster and better then a quality of life improvement like the streetcar.

Center Bank, FG is gone, think of FG as Barnett, gone from the books and anals of Jacksonville. Center Bank has no plans to offload what they consider one of the neighborhood jewels.
Ben Davis for City Council! Do it dude, you want to make an impact locally, I would vote for you! I think you could at least get 250 votes from all the mug club members, I am a proud one at #167.

Wouldnt be so sure of that.
They have one of their buildings for sale now on King Street and are considering seperating the parcel into two lots across the street to sell as well. The branch isn't going away... but the property they own can be very different than what it is today in a relatively short amount of time.

I am aware that FG was sold, which is why I said that their property would be sold at least in part. Since that branch is no longer the crowl jewel of the FG holdings that it used to be, Center State doesn't need those acres of land that it currently has. Also, I'm sure a number of those back office positions that were at that location were transferred elsewhere, which means they don't need the huge parking lot and the buildings across the street. Being a bank, Center State must realize the value of the vast amounts of land that they are sitting on and they probably want to capitalize on it while that area is still hot.
I've heard that the buildings across the street from Centerbank are in the hands of the FDIC not Centerbank and will be put up for sale by FDIC. Haven't confirmed that and could be completely misinformed.

FG (now Center Bank) used to own most of those houses on Frederica. They are for sale and show (on COJ.net) the FDIC as the current owner. Also there is that massive, gorgeous wooded lot stretching from Lydia over to Downing. VERY STRANGE ABOUT THAT LOT, ON COJ.NET IT SHOWS THAT THE MORMON CHURCH OF SALT LAKE CITY OWNS THE MINERAL RIGHTS TO THAT PARCEL. Can anyone explain that to me? I would love to know how that transaction came about.
