The ferry is the only link for State Road A1A from Maine to Key West. A bridge cannot be built on the site. Jacksonville citizens paid for the Dames Point Bridge through a special tax - not FDOT! Millions have been spent on bike trails, eco-tourism, and A1A bridges and infrastructure throughout Florida -- does it make sense to just cut it off when it reaches Jacksonville? Remember, it is illegal for bicycles to be on the Dames Point Bridge. Cyclists have to go all the way downtown to the Main Street Bridge, a 40.5 mile detour! Tourists traveling between St. Augustine and Amelia Island will not leave I-95 in Duval County which will cost us all millions in sales revenue and tax dollars. You have a last chance to show your support for the ferry, please join us at Ferry Fest and show your support!
ABOUT THE ST. JOHN'S RIVER FERRY
THE ST. JOHN'S RIVER FERRY SERVICE is a vital part of Northeast Florida's local transportation system, connecting State Road A1A between Heckscher Drive and Mayport Village. The Jacksonville Port Authority has voted to stop supporting ferry operations. Discontinuing this service will have profound impacts on the First Coast's economic, transportation, and environmental interests. Help us continue the fight by:
- Signing our Petition to show lawmakers that the community supports continuation of the Ferry
- Writing your Councilors, Representatives, and Senators — not to mention Mayors and Governors! — to ask them to support the Ferry
- Spreading the word about the Ferry to all your friends and family! Anyone can sign the petition, no matter who or where they are!
