Title: Mosquito Control is a Public Safety Issue
Post by: FayeforCure on August 06, 2012, 04:57:25 PM
With the 450th Birthday Celebration of St Augustine coming up in 2015, we will have a huge influx of visitors........

There will be a myriad of safety concerns including mosquito borne diseases.

Sooooooo.............

Living in St Johns County?

Bothered by Mosquitos?

Elect Faye Armitage for Mosquito Control Board.

As an advocate for the environment, health and safety, I will work for you, your family, your animals, and the visitors to our beautiful St Johns County.

I raised 5 children in St Johns county and am the grandmother of four. Being a life-long health advocate, I care about your health and our quality of life in St Johns county.

Educated as an economist and having worked in private industry in the health care field in their finance and budgeting departments, I believe in the effective use of public monies to accomplish the best public service possible. That means not wasting monies on new buildings or the purchase of expensive helicopters for only occasional aerial spraying. It makes far more sense to continue to lease the helicopters as needed.

I also believe in increased public education, visibility and accountability for Mosquito Control and its activities in St Johns County, to ensure fiscal responsibility and safety to all St Johns County residents.

Mosquito Control is an elected position?  No offense to Fay or the other candidates, but that is a new one on me, for any locality.

Democrats, expanding government one newly elected position at a time.

Huh?

St Johns county is pretty solidly Republican..........I wonder how your scenario would possibly work in St Johns county.

Rather one could say that this is a case of Republicans adding to government...........and though this is a non-partisan race, I'm running to prevent the Republican incumbent from building an unnecessary new building, and buying an unnecesary helicopter, at a time when mosquito control is already running at a deficit due to a drop in revenues from property taxes.

So there you have a bonafide Democrat who believes in the efficient use of scarce public resources.

Thanks for your support.

Why stop at a public safety issue?  I'd say it's a national security issue.

Thanks Captain Zissou and Ben says for your support.

I know I'm often quite opinionated, and having the opportunity to put the pedal to the metal about a health issue that I'm passionate about, feels darn good.

learn something new everyday.  I also had no idea there was a board.  Is this only for Anastasia Island or is this a county wide election?

Oh, sorry.  i was being sarcastic.  Why do we need a board for this?  Duval county had in 2012 over $1M budgeted to mosquito control.

I don't know how big it is, but there are three guys that are putting ads out calling themselves the "Three Mosquiteers".  There must be a great slush fund associated with this.

Thanks fsquid......."Smashing Friends of Obama" in a non-partisan race?

Ah, that explains why there were about 5,800 Democratic voters and I got about 5,600 votes. Republicans were told not to vote for a "Friend of Obama" in a non-partisan race. Go figure.

How neighborly is that?

BTW there were about 25,000 Republicans voting, that's a huge disparity for a Democrat to overcome even in a non-partisan race. Talk about the unbalanced chances of citizens trying to make a difference in their communities.
