In order to keep Making It Happen, Preservation SOS and The Well at Springfield have partnered up to coordinate this year’s event. Join us for another fantastic transformation in the neighborhood!
2012 Project: Sat., 7/21/12 8:00a.m.-? Ms. Mattie’s House 1800 Block at Walnut Street
This year we are proud to Make It Happen for Ms. Mattie! She is an 80- years- young long time Springfield resident (30+ years!) who lives in a bungalow on Walnut Street. We will paint, landscape, and fix up the outside in order to help Ms. Mattie.
Ways You Can Help: WE NEED SUPPLIES, DONATIONS & VOLUNTEERS! We will post the supplies list on the Facebook Event Page but we can always use donations- online donations can be made through the PSOS website. Volunteers- Come ready to get dirty! Lunch is provided! Stay as little or as long as you can!

Background: The Make It Happen event started in 2010 with Miss Maggie’s house on 2nd Street. Nicole Lopez and P.SOS decided to organize a day where the neighborhood would show up to fix, paint & landscape this beautiful & deserving woman’s house. The experience was amazing- just like transformations you see on HGTV! Since then there have been two other successful Make It Happen Events, all because of a nomination and participation of caring neighbors.
**Please Spread the Word!! Thanks!!**
We are still creating a list of supplies needed to compete the work, but here is a preliminary list of things we know we need. If you can donate ANY of these supplies or funds to purchase them, please let us know ASAP. You can message us or post here. THANK YOU!!

Let's put a smile on this little lady's face.
The Well at Springfield has been very busy planning, organizing, and talking to Miss Mattie about this project. Many have contributed already to the cause. More supplies are needed.
It will be a fun and heart-warming day. Please come out and join Susan Rogers, Monica McVay, Nicole Lopez, the Well at Springfield, and Preservation SOS as we show our world how to MAKE IT HAPPEN.

I'll donate $25, Italiana.
Still Needed:
1. Monetary donations to cover plant/landscape purchases.
4. Various paint supplies en masse (brushes, rollers, cups for paint, trays, buckets, scrapers, tarps, rags etc.)
5. Cases of water and and other drinks in ice
6. Use of yard tools (shovels, rakes, etc.)
With thanks to several generous folks we have the other supplies covered.
See you this Saturday at 8 a.m.
1800 block of Walnut Street
If I contribute to Preservation SOS, can/will that be designated to this project specifically?
Is there a pic of what this house looks like now? Sorry, if I just overlooked it.
Do you still need volunteers?? Or do you need donations more??
vicup: yes. write "Make it Happen" in the memo section. 100% of it will go to the project.
ashleylauren: i'm gonna call both equal. believe it or not the project is fun and 2 neighbors/friends stir up a great barbeque. monetary donations to offset $300 in landscape materials is great.
picture to follow.
The owner of this humble 1940s bungalow (Miss Mattie Williams) stated that she was jealous of all her neighbors who were making their houses pretty and she couldn't make hers pretty too. :-)
So this works out. She hasn't had her home painted in over 15 years. The awnings will stay (she is very attached to them) but we will paint her house shades of lilac, blues and greys (her choice) and had a local landscape designer create a new plan for her front yard with flowers, plants, and shrubs.
Her house is small which makes the project managable and affordable. And a right nice gift from the community to this 80 year old neighbor of 30+ years in Springfield.

iloveionia, I will be joining you on Saturday. I am an intern for Metrojacksonville.com and I would love to help out and write about what took place afterwards. I work until late Friday evening so I will not be able to come around until a little bit later in the morning, but I will show up with a cooler full of water and gatorade. If you could give me an idea of how many people may volunteer so I know how much to get.
If someone could message me tomorrow I would appreciate it. I have a few questions and I also was curious what other supplies you needed. Thanks!
Nice project SOS crew. :)
Close to 60 people showed up.
