Title: Good Business -)(- Bad Business
Post by: NavyRet on June 26, 2012, 02:15:54 AM
There's a need, at times, for a community sounding board, which would provide residents with a common area to compare notes.  There are businesses in our county which epitomize good service and provide quality products, but on the flipside, there are those who fall short.

Anyone have any praises or horror stories they would like to share?  I'll start...

Nothing gets me hotter than solicitors banging on my door, ignoring the "NO SOLICITATION" sign. Churches, for some reason, feel they are immune to these signs and bang anyway, but occasionally a business representative will feel their product is so extraordinary to warrant exception to the request. Enter ADT.

I suppose ADT has a program which encourages door-to-door solicitation. I had one such gentleman a couple months back, bang on my door waking me from a sound, restful sleep after a long night of insomnia. I open the door and after hearing an abbreviated pitch promoting his wares, I asked if he did not see the NO SOLICITATION sign on my door. He replied that he "was not selling anything, but was merely promoting a service." (this is where I came close to going postal).

With as much candor as I could muster, I strongly suggested that he remove his non-soliciting ass from my property before I share with him the joys and affection of the over-zealous pit bull my daughter dragged home (I guess DAWG has its uses after all). The gentleman complied with my request and, holding a "this residence protected by ADT" sign in his hand, pointed to my "NO SOLICITATION" sign and said, "People will pay a lot more attention to THIS sign than THAT one."

DAWG accompanies me to every door banging incident I encounter now. He's just a puppy, but he's got damn big feet and loves to play....

By the way...I still don't have an ADT sign, but the "BEWARE THE DOG" sign on my fence sure looks purty.
