Title: Pantone Color of the Year
Post by: gjosephunf on June 11, 2012, 05:20:58 PM
The color of the year is.......TANGERINE TANGO!!!

Originally founded in 1956 as a printing company. Pantone devised color guides via color swatch by using the CMYK system (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black). Pantone continues to influence printing, paint, color, and fabrics. Designers and Artists within the fashion/design industry continue gather inspirational looks from Pantone's Goe System and color swatches.

This is the "it" color for Summer 2012

Tangerine Tango is quite complementary for daytime or evening wear. During daytime (Creme, Brown, Olive) would look dashing. Evening (Darker colors such as Black, Navy Blue, or even throw in a pattern). Ladies, if you throw in a metallic accessory or color it would look quite trendy.

Gentlemen, this color looks quite sophisticated depending on what "look" you're going for. I think a black and white striped crewneck t-shirt, or a crisp white button-down would look dapper.

So MetJax if you had the chance to pick the color of the year, what would it be? Also, what would you wear with it?

Garden guy --- I agree 100% when it comes to clothing color affects undertones within our skin. If an individual with dull skin wanted to pull the "Tangerine Tango" color I would suggest for them to colorblock since "colorblocking" can prove wonders for a wardrobe.

Tangerine Tango is a perfect fit for me though!

Currently we're seeing a shift within the clothing industry (styles are becoming more utilitarian yet chic)

I think individuals can achieve great looks whether it is thrifting (my absolute fav), shopping at trendy/contemporary stores such as Forever21, H&M, Topshop/Topman, Urban Outfitters, Zara, and Nordstrom/Macy's (Depending on one's budget).

From a personal note I enjoy reading and purchasing "high-fashion" items. However, I'm willing to pair a Marc Jacobs tee with $10 thrifted denim shorts by cutting for my personality/personal taste.

I agree with you GJoseph!  High fashion designs transcend down from powerful runway looks to everyday wearable looks sold in department stores and boutiques.  This color is simply a guide to what's going to be seen the most this year in everything from dresses to jewelry.

This color is very powerful, but the color of the year is meant to be bold and eccentric.  If it were mild, it wouldn't be the color of the year.  Tangerine Tango can work for all skin tones, the idea of color-blocking makes it suitable for everyone.

Cool skin tones should accessorize with cool colors (think pink, mint. silver and blue and even purple tones.)
Warm skin tones should stick to yellows, reds, golds and greens.
Neutrals such as black, tan, khaki and brown work for everyone.

If wearing the orangey hue as an article of clothing still isn't your thing, try featuring it in a pair of earrings, nails or even on your lips!

The trick for bold lip color is to keep the rest of the face neutral.

I was just talking about this color today when a coworker came in wearing a beautiful tangerine dress.  I painted my craft room this color and it has inspired a lot of creativity.

It's my understanding (from our designers at work - we have a Pantone colour for our brand) that most Pantone colours cannot be replicated via CMYK.

Great idea painting your craft room this color, rvrsdediva.  Orange/tangerine is known to symbolize creativity, high aspiration, ambition, passion and confidence.  All key feelings in creating art as well as what you'd want to exude at work.

It's a really great color. Sephora and Pantone do some stuff together and they've got a "Color of the Year" deal going on right now that not only has makeup but brushes and makeup accessories in the color as well. If the tangerine isn't really your deal, they've got a pretty amazing eye shadow palette called "Shades of Nature" and a really awesome brush set to go along with it.
