Just saw this over on PFT, so no telling how accurate it is. Interesting idea, though I'm not sure it'd be feasible with the Florida / Georgia game impact. It was be nice if we could do something creative like a themed party deck in the stadium.

QuoteNew Jaguars owner Shahid Khan wants to remove the tarps at Everbank Field. While that may not be practical, the team could be looking for other ways to alter the maximum capacity of the venue without forcing the Jaguars to use fabric of any kind when preparing the stadium for NFL games.
According to Daniel Kaplan of SportsBusiness Journal, new team president Mark Lamping recently explained that removing the tarps would result in 80,000 seats, making Everbank Field one of the largest facilities in the league. And so Lamping apparently is looking for ways to more naturally adjust the NFL arrangement, pointing to the fact that the ’90s-era installation of a manual baseball scoreboard at Busch Stadium in St. Louis organically carved 6,000 seats out of the stadium.
Thus, the buzzword for the Jaguars has become “resizing.†In this regard, the biggest challenge will be devising a configuration that allows for the annual accommodation of the full 80,000 (and then some) for the Florida-Georgia college football game.
Regardless of the numbers of seats that need to be sold, the Jaguars have hired Legends Sales and Marketing to assist with the effort to sell tickets. Per Kaplan, Legends executive Chad Johnson will work on a full-time basis in the Jaguars offices.
Making the choice of Legends somewhat intriguing is the fact that the company is jointly owned by the New York Yankees â€" and the Dallas Cowboys.
So, basically, the team that routinely fills up a cavernous venue in North Texas will now be working with the Jaguars to help them sell however many tickets need to be sold once Everbank Field is “resized.â€

resizing could work. We will just need space for more temporary seating for Florida/Georgia game. (more than we already have at the present. ) If they can do that, then it will work.
Redskins are doing the same thing right?

Yup. And its actually the second time they are reducing their capacity. The bears already reduced their capacity when the renovated Solider Field. The Bears now have the smallest stadiums in one of the largest NFL markets. Miami is even throwing around the idea of reducing capcity. It would be a no brainier for us to this. Markets larger than us already have done it.
It's a good idea, but like the poster said it would be difficult with the FL-GA game. We're pretty much held hostage by that thing.

How would it be difficult? As long as its designed to where we can put in enough temporary seating for the FL/GA game, how is that difficult?
hard to design a space for 15,000-20,000 temporary seats i guess.
Basically, we're talking about closing both upper decks, right? There were 44,000 at the soccer game and the bottom bowl was almost full. From an economics standpoint, it makes sense. Reduce supply, prices go up. Maybe not a bad thing.
Maybe an open area similar to the Bud Zone in the north end upper decks. Something that could be easily transformed to extra seating for bowl games and Florida/Georgia.
Though I'm sure the national media would try to spin this into a bad thing, I think it would be great. It would give the stadium some new life. I'd be interested to see what ideas they come up with for the redesign.
I would Think it would be best to somehow take out about the upper third of the upper deck on both sides. Perhaps take out two rows. Which should be able to be put back in easily enough for fla/ga game. And then after those two rows are removed install about an 8 foot high ribbon board similar to what was used on the field for the soccer match the other night running entire length of the upper decks. You could then sell additional advertising on it. And perhaps show ongoing scores and fantasy football stats.

I think this is the only reasonable option....take away some seats in the north end zone and set up a flat top roof (party deck)...then bleachers can be added for FL/GA game, just like is done above the Bud Light zone in the south end zone
It's only bad press if you don't get out in front of it.
Im sure they are aways off from even thinking about doing it though. I think they are just bouncing the idea. They are going to probably study the attendance for a few seasons and see where were at, then decide from there. Aside from 2009, weve been averaging 62,000-65,000 over the past 5 or 6 years.
Yeah I'm sure it's too late to do something this year, but I could see them doing it next year. I agree that they probably will see how ticket sales pan out this year. I really do hope they remove some seats from the pool of available seats. All of those people who think they can just walk up last minute and get tickets will have to think twice from then on. I'll happily have my seat that I've had for the past 7 years. It'd be great to have a waiting list for season tickets again.
The Az Cardinals have a capacity of about 65k in their stadium with over 10k seats on rollers for the Fiesta Bowls. Nobody says a word. It's all about the tarps.
I always thought this whole capacity thing was silly. simply put a cap on the total number of seats available. Problem solved. If you get demand for 80K seats, fine. I know it's more complicated than this, but it seems more complicated than it needs to be.
^Blame the league for that one. There doesn't "need" to be certain percentage of tickets sold, but the league wants it that way. It's ridiculous.
