It’s already May and, for any parent with kids in school, that means it’s almost report card time. Here at the National Partnership, we have been hard at work giving out our own set of grades â€" to states.
Earlier today, with Mother’s Day approaching, we released our newest report, Expecting Better: A State-by-State Analysis of Laws That Help New Parents. We’ve given every state a grade based on how well its policies support working parents.
And your state got a D!
A D means there’s a lot of work to be done in Florida â€" we know the state can and must do better.
The sad truth is that most states received grades of C or worse. In fact, 18 states don’t have a single policy that improves on federal law to support new parents. And no state is doing all it could to give employed mothers and fathers the support they need to be both caregivers and breadwinners.
Working parents need â€" and expect â€" better. They need the ability to care for their family members without jeopardizing their economic security and their jobs.
Share Florida’s report card with your family and friends by forwarding this email or sharing the report card on Facebook.
My Comment: So much for Republican Leadership on "Family Values"!!!!!!!
