Anyone know about the place next to Pele's on King Street (I think where Hammer Hall was) that has a sign up that says, Beer Thirty Coming Soon? Is it going to be a bar, or just a store to buy beer?
Beer store, I think. Good news, Grassroots can't hold up the whole city by itself!
Fantastic.. the moment they start carrying Founders, I'm pounding down the door.

I smiled when I read this. Grassroots is killing it with selection. Now that they have wine, they're a goldmine.
It's kind of a package store that will sell craft beer. The two guys opening it are pretty friendly.
Best news ever. RA is becoming a HAVEN for the discerning beer drinker.
Is this going in Hammer Hall's actual space?? Did they close?? They always seemed to be busy.
While I probably will or would never have gone in there, I liked having Hammer Hall at Park & King. It was an interesting crowd who were all pretty nice. I often see them at Carmines. You can tell by the ironic Star Wars or video game t-shirts.

Hammer Hall moved. I believe they are in the strip mall in Murray Hill off of Plymouth. Same strip as where the Five Star Pizza is.

Don't forget a haven for public urination and spew monkeys. We might add a few automobiles to the mix as well.
I am looking forward to this place. I walked by with my dogs last night and the sign said they were opening in May. Not that I would expect them to have much of a buildout, but the place is pretty much empty so if they have stuff to do they need to get on it
I know the guys opening Beer:30 and have the latest scoop: Grand Opening is tomorrow, June 1st. Open from 11am-2am. There's going to be a killer sale on all 3 Intuition brews (6-packs of Jon Boat, People's Pale, and I10 IPA). It's a package store, make your own 6-pack, weekly specials / beers of the month kind of place. Find them on facebook for the latest on tomorrow's events: https://www.facebook.com/Beer30jax .. oh, and spread the word!
^Thanks Ginger!
I'm there.
Should say the address is 1271 King Street (a couple doors down from Pele's)
Cheers!
I have been creeping around looking in the windows for the last couple weeks when walking my dogs. Really excited about the place. I will be going tomorrow to make my first of many purchases.
We're excited to welcome our new neighbors! Best of luck with the grand opening!
Just left Beer:30 and WOW, great prices on Intuition six packs
how much?
I just made my first visit as well, great selection, i have enough IPA to last me through the weekend...hopefully. This is a great addition to the 'hood
Man, I just picked up a sixer of Great Divide Colette from Grassroots yesterday. I might need to swing by Beer Thirty to see what they have in stock.
Are their beers chilled or room temp?
Most seem to be room temp, but they have a fridge with some. I was able to get my I-10's nice and cold!
Stopped by last night after dinner at Carmines. Picked up a bottle of Bold City Coffee stout and a bottle of Brooklyn Number 1. They have an awesome selection of beer. They even carry your Bud Lights and stuff like that in the back of the store for those without taste buds and a small selection of wines. Great addition to the neighborhood.
I might have to find a second job. All of these were spot on. And this is what happens when I'm told to grab a six pack of Guinness and Newcastle.

Wow the Grand Opening yesterday was amazing!! Thanks to everyone who came out (& Pele's, thanks again for the free pizza)!! The Intuition 6-packs are disappearing quickly since the People's Pale & Jon Boat are only $7.49 and I-10 is only $8.49. We just had a guy come in and swipe four I-10 6packs for his personal stash haha! We definitely feel the love, Jacksonville. Tell all your friends and see you soon!

I perused, but I was disappointed. I mean this constructively, but please try harder to get a better selection of microbrews. The prices looked decent, but I didn't see anything that I can't get at Publix down the street, ABC on 17 or European Street. It didn't feel "special" as much as it just felt like "another option".
If you're going to strive to be anything, please take a look at 99 Bottles in Seattle (http://www.99bottles.net/).
It's one thing to just be a beer store, it takes a whole lot more effort to source interesting brews out. If you can rise to the occasion, you can be a star, otherwise I'll just pick up the same beer I can get there when I go and get groceries.
Glad to hear it's open, I was worried for a while, thought it was a hole in the wall beer bar with 30 beers on tap, which typically would be good but not in between Pele's and Kickbacks. Glad to hear they have good beers at good prices. Can't wait to stop by.
Oh and BTW Hammer Hall did move to the strip mall on Plymouth near 5 Star Pizza. I live about a block from there and they had been standing on Edgewood near 17 to advertise. Seems like they are packing it out, haven't been in though.

Appreciate all feedback, both good and bad. We are certainly going to have some overlap with places like publix and ABC on the better known craft brands like Rogue, Stone, Sam Adams and those guys. But we also carry a lot of brewers that you don't find at other places, like Ipswich, Coronado, Anderson Valley, Bison, and a whole mess of others. Our initial ordering was limited to what was in stock now, so our seasonal and rare release section is only going to get better with time. Either way, thanks for the honest review, and thanks for stopping in. If you want us to try and order anything in particular let us know and we'll see if we can bring it in. Cheers!
It won't stop me from coming back. :) I think we all have our idealized beer store, and it's easy to get caught up in the "Well I won't go there because they don't carry the brand that *I* want!"
I think you're off to a great start, and I'm excited to see what you guys become. We've sorely needed a place like this (besides grassroots, which I also love for their imports). Good luck and I can't wait to see what you pull off!

Founders is not distributed to Florida: http://foundersbrewing.com/beer-locator

A beer store like a beer bar has to go through a distributer. There are only so many brands they can carry and are sort of at the mercy of the distributor. Again, many breweries do not even send their beer to Florida so it's unfair to compare a place like Portland, OR or Seattle to Jacksonville in terms of beer distribution.
