Title: Meet Henna Bakshi
Post by: HennaBakshi on April 25, 2012, 12:19:25 AM
Hey, hey Metro Jacksonville viewers!

Let me take this opportunity to introduce you to myself.

I am Henna Bakshi, a reporter, public speaker, anchor, show host, poet and traveler. I am very excited to join the Metro Jacksonville family. I will be making videos with Andy Leverett about the hidden cultures of Jacksonville.

Let me begin with a little bit of my past and then I'll dwell into the current.

I was born and raised in New Delhi, India. Living in India helped me learn several languages, including Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, French and English. If I could pick out one sole thing I cherish most about my culture, it would be the food. Indian food is home, comfort, spice and true fulfillment for me.

Having a rich Indian heritage, I moved to the US for higher education and opportunities. I attended Douglas Anderson School of the Arts with a major in Creative Writing. I loved pursuing writing in the forms of poetry, fiction, playwriting and journalism. I worked for the high school paper and started my own food column called "The Skillet." The column has now grown into a cooking series I produced at University of North Florida (UNF) with Andy Leverett. I currently attend the university.

Producing and starring in my cooking show, “The Skillet” has been my favorite project yet. I am a foodie at heart and combining that with my other loveâ€"media, was a dream come true. I made the show with Andy Leverett last year and it currently airs on the Osprey TV network on campus. Andy helped me give life to “The Skillet” and here we are again, embarking on another project, this time with Metro Jacksonville.

Apart from that, I anchor and report for the show, “Inside Jacksonville” airing on channel CW17. This summer, I will be reporting in correspondence with The Washington Post and Florida Times Union about the Presidential Campaign 2012. For more information about me, including links to episodes of “The Skillet,” news packages I have made, articles I have written, feel free to visit www.hennabakshi.blogspot.com.

Cheers,
Henna Bakshi
