Random question for the peanut gallery:
Can anyone tell me exactly what the lighting on the top of the Main Street Bridge is supposed to represent?
(this refers to the vertical strands of light on the very top of the bridge, facing south, which are sometimes turned on, sometimes not).
It appears to be some representation of the American flag, with vertical lines of light on the top portions of the bridge. But some strands of light extend fully from top to bottom (about 10 feet?) while others abruptly end about half way down.
I'm not sure whether these lights on the bridge are operating as designed, or whether bulbs have burned out, but it looks kind of tacky - and these lights are displayed at seemingly random nights. Was curious if anyone had the scoop on this. Thanks!
The display is all screwed up. Sometimes it shows an American flag and other times its just a bunch of colors (which looks pretty bad). It looks better turned off.
Also, is the city pursuing the manufacturer or contractor that installed them? They only worked correctly for about a month.

does this seem odd to you....because if you look at the flag, you'll notice that some of the stripes also go only halfway!
The original lights installed for the Superbowl, would change images, it was not a static display. Due to a manufactures defect that allowed moisture to get into the LED displays, the pieces all had to be replaced under the warranty. They are working on getting it back to its original intent. At this point it is still a work in progress. Hang in there hopefully, soon it will be back to how it was when the Super Bowl was here.

Does anybody know what ever happened with this? Did the city give up?
Anyone have a picture of them when they worked? I'd like to see that.
On a similar note, as stoked as I am about the Friendship Fountain renovation, I'll be event more stoked if the city actually maintains the area, especially in the event that something goes wrong.

EXACTLY. That is my concern as well. Especially the landscaping. That is why I asked Bob in a previous post who would be responsible for the maintenance and up keep of the park.
I do have shots of the lights. They were really great for a while. As usual the money was spent but the city, or whomever is in charge, have yet to repair or replace them or what ever is suppose to happen. They looked great for the superbowl. But it has been several years now and it seems as if this item has been swept under the rug. I will try to find the pictures and post them when I can.
It the same thing we do with our roads. We build the darn things without a thought for maintaining them. Every project, stadium, fountain, bridge lights, skyway, roads etc. should have an assured maintenance fund in place before it is built. It's called true-cost accounting.
