Title: Brooklyn progress
Post by: JeffreyS on January 14, 2008, 01:03:23 PM
Driving by the Brooklyn development today and it looks like much of the prefab components and early construction supplies have been delivered. Maybe a ground breaking is upon us. No camera with me if someone is around to snap a few post them or I will bring the camera in to work tomorrow.

Those prefab sections are for the duPont building behind EverBank, if only they'd hurry up on this thing though!

wow Brooklyn is really coming along into a nice new piece of blight for jax.

i think you guys should do a report comparing the amount of metropolitan dirt piles that jax has versus other metros.  i wonder if anywhere else is as bad as us...

I love the plans for this site on the Brooklyn Park website, but I have a question.
Are these the actual structures that will be built, or will the buildings take on a different look since the residential component has been scaled back for now?
I hope and pray we don't get a 1 story strip mall on this site....

This is supposed to be the new scaled down version.  The original plans had a few 20 story tall towers.  I'm wondering what's taking them so long to break ground.  They are almost a year past the original groundbreaking date.

Do you have any photos of the original plans? The new plans look good then, but too bad there won't be some taller buildings.

looked like they were working on site today putting in utilities.  Some signs looked new too.

If this and the Bay Street Station become a reality, downtown will finally start to see the beginning of a new urban explosion.

I have to believe that the Skyway extension into Brooklyn to Riverside is being seriously considered.  There is a huge possiblity that the developer would be willing to help with the cost of a station integrated into the largest proposed tower along Riverside Ave.

My favorite part of the Brooklyn Park Jax web site is the "Coming Fall 2007".

That would be Blue Cross - Blue Shield??

I meant the Brooklyn Park developer could easily integrate a station into the proposed tower on the left of the image above.  This would provide a direct connection to the development and likely make big buck for them in the end.  I know if it were my money in this project I would love a shot to throw a bit more at it for a larger return due to a more sucessful development.

Blue Cross would be another beneficiary depending on the route of the Skyway.
