Great event. Congratulations to all. What a turnout.
This was a great event. Thanks again to all that made it happen.
To DVI's position, I do not believe that it is well founded. My office is in lavilla and there are no "brick and mortar" restaurants within walking distance and this is a void that the food trucks could fill for the office and the new courthouse.
I understand that DVI does not make the law, but it could at least give support to an idea that will actually help downtown.
It is important to recognize that DVI is comprised of businesses downtown...even if staff thinks something is a good idea, the Board may say otherwise.
Jesus why did I miss this!! I'm so hungry now lol
QuoteDon't over regulate or they'll build your dreams in Atlanta.
Downtown Jacksonville has continuously declined over the last half century due to over regulation and policies that restrict creativity, innovation, and small business growth from taking place within a compact pedestrian scale setting. If allowed, events like Jax Truckies could become a regular foot traffic generator, pumping life into a morbid downtown at a cost significantly less than the current proposal to shuffle chairs and cut down trees in Hemming Plaza.
Wow, GREAT STATEMENT LAKE!!!!
This was a terrific event. Stuff like this really reminds you why it's great to live in Jacksonville. Fabulous work by Mike and all involved.
To reiterate what others say, though, it's unacceptable that events like this are made arbitrarily unfeasible downtown.
With such a high rate of demolition, food trucks are the only feasible way to actually add new places to eat downtown.
Can't open a restaurant in a grass field.
Big props to everyone involved in this. It sold out before I could get tickets but it sounded like a blast.
Since the city doesn't want anything to do with food trucks, what private lots would be available for something like this on a monthly basis?
DVI's statement is laughable. Someone shoule tell them it would take a lot less time to write, "Metro Jacksonville's discussion on food trucks makes more sense than our original statement, so we're going to soften our stance and cover our ass with a statement that doesn't really say anything but won't make people hate us more." We're up to 12 years now with DVI and its current leadership. I wish I could do as much at my job as DVI has done in 12 years, and still get a paycheck.
DVI's statement is consistent with many ordinances, regulations and attitude in this city, which scream, "jax is content with mediocrity." This attitude is very frustrating with a city that has great potential to be much more than it is currently.
Just in case you aren't aware, the Jax Truckies facebook page is being updated daily with the location of food trucks in the area. If you're hungry, make sure to visit the page:

Deutsche and TPC are two new spots that are welcoming food trucks for the first time today. There may be two more new locations by the end of the month as well.
A new food truck should also be out by the end of the month.
The momentum is building... downtown shouldn't be left out.

This is awesome and typical Jacksonville. An industry is taking off and growing throughout the city completely in spite of downtown. If it wasn't so pathetic it would be utterly hilarious. I am picturing Terry Lorince standing on the Main Street Bridge holding a 'no food trucks' sign and feeling awful proud of herself.

You wouldn't have to picture it, you'd be able to find the video on Jerry's YouTube feed.
Wayne Weaver himself got down on some Monroes today outside of Everbank Plaza!

Four more office parks have joined in and are now hosting food trucks since I last posted this.
