QuoteJustice Dept. Investigating Florida Killing After Outcry
MIAMI â€" The Justice Department has opened an investigation into the fatal shooting last month of an unarmed black Florida teenager by a crime watch volunteer, a case that has set off a national outcry.
In a statement released Monday night, the Justice Department said its Civil Rights Division, in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, would investigate the death of the teenager, Trayvon Martin, who was shot as he was walking to the home of his father’s girlfriend from a convenience store in Sanford, just north of Orlando, on Feb. 26. The neighborhood watch volunteer has told the police that he shot Trayvon, 17, in self-defense.

This sounds more like a strait forward murder case to me.
The local yokel sheriff wouldn't arrest the white guy for shooting the black kid, who was unarmed and doing nothing more than walking down the street. What did they expect? Somebody has to do something, it's flat-out murder. He was claiming self defense, after he chased the unarmed kid down with a gun and killed him. Pretty clearly not self defense. This is more a warning sign about that sheriff's office than anything else.

+1.
Its amazing that this man wasn't arrested immediately . If Zimmerman had been an African American male he would have been immediately arrested, no questions asked.. whats even worse is that he is saying it was 'self defense'?? Self defense from what? The skittles that the boy was carrying? even the 911 operator told him to stay in his car. This guy is a murder.
Manslaughter at the very least. Evidently the shooter thought he was some sort of vigilante/cop wannabe. I understand there were dozens of calls to 911 that he had made in the previous months about the most trivial stuff.

Yea he called 911 for someone having the Garage Door Open, I mean really.
My favorite part is that right after DOJ announced the investigation, Rick Scott sent a poorly written letter to FDLE to "handle it" in what seems like some political attempt to say "Naw, bro we got this! No need to look over here!"
