I was watching the Travel Channel the other day and they were showing those Brazilian steakhouses where the servers bring the giant slab of meat to your table and slice you off enough food to clog half your arteries.
Looks wonderful. When I lived in NY I went long ago, but was too young to appreciate it.
I see there's one in Jacksonville in Avondale. Website makes it out to look wonderful, but if anyone has ever been to this (or any) Brazilian steakhouse here in Jacksonville I'd love to hear thoughts before I venture out.
In my opinion, you cannot go wrong with Espeto. It's been consistently great every time I've gone. Pricey, but if you man up and stuff yourself silly, it will be well worth the money :D The only qualifier I should add is that it's probably been a year since my last visit, but I'm sure not much has changed.

It's been close to a year for me since my last visit as well, but I agree with Ken it has always been consistently good.
Not the best Churrascaria I have ever had though. That honor is reserved for Ipanema in Ocala (yes I said Ocala).
I also have been to Tejas de Brazil in Orlando, and I would say it was on par with Espeto.
Tento Churrascaria at Jax Beach was good about 2 years ago when I went. Is it still open?
Was wondering about Tento as well. I really want to go to one or the other again- Tento was awesome, always heard good things about Espeto as well, just haven't heard from anyone that's been in the past year or so. Gotta love it though, I call these places "Meat Museums".
Tento is closed; but they're opening a new place this month (Skewers by Tento):

(I thought that Tento & Espeto were owned by the same people?)

I wouldn't have expected such a place in Ocala either, but I have to agree that Ipanema is very good. I went with Brazilian friends a few months ago, and we were all impressed.
