Hey y'all, I'm Tim. I've been following this site for years. I've lived Fairfax for 12 years after Denver and Charleston. Both my wife and I are urban school teachers, have been for many years. I truly believe that both the neighborhoods and their businesses around the core are comparable to other "hip" cities, and that by frequenting them more often we can create a community that says "eff you" we're doing our way- you do it yours.
Hi Thunnus!

Might be on to something. Yeah, the building structures can change all they want, but the mentality of the city should change as well.
Welcome thunnus! :)

How long did you live in Charleston? Lived there 4 years, great place.

Lived on Queen St. for a year. Ate my brains out at Juanita Greenbergs and watched every excellent band come through the old Music Farm (Fishbone, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Nomeansno). Vomited a couple of times at that church turned night club (97-99ish).
Hey Thunnus, Welcome to the party, I see you've already got that MJ attitude down pat!

I remember that place. Back in college, my architectural class was spending some time in cities along the East Coast and the days in Charleston became pretty blurry after finding that place.
