Everything old is new again; remember Jim Walter Homes, locally?

And to go even further back, Sears...

It may be an idea whose time has come around, again.
When I was younger we called that a trailer. I was rebuked by our trailer park manager and learned that they were to be referred to as mobile homes.
It's definitely not a mobile home, but a cool modular one. I love it.
It's neat but look at other modular homes and you can do much better for your money. And I'm sorry, but most of their designs really do scream "70's trailer" to me.
@thekillingwax, do you have any examples of better modular homes?
My aunt retired last year and moved up to Georgia to live on some land my family has up there. Went trailer modular home shopping with her. She bought a really huge three bedroom model (pushing 2000sqft) that was fully finished on the inside, didn't look erm-- "trailerish" at all, just looks like a normal house. Sturdy as all hell too, I was impressed. I think the total was right around $90k, after setup and everything. Only thing she had to buy, if I recall were her washer and dryer and that's because she wanted fancy colored ones.
They all have terrible resale potential but I'd certainly settle for more mundane styling in exchange for more room and not having to deal with ikea furniture. If those were priced MUCH lower, I could dig it but I don't think it's worth anything near the asking price. If you're of the mind that design is worth more money, I'd rather dig deep and go with something from Method Homes http://methodhomes.net/Projects.php (http://methodhomes.net/Projects.php) or a company like them. I just like the designs more and I think the utilization of space is better. I just don't like the prospect of buying and living in a house that looks and functions like a tiny studio apartment.

I do, it's called a metal shipping container...which is just what the floorplan looks like on this one. You can pick up a shipping container, 20' long, 9' wide with 10' "ceilings for around 5k. Most people say before they die they want to live in a huge mansion with all the luxuries they could ask for. Me? A shipping container house, and a Pacific yurt.
