A Great effort!
A Public/Private/ Partnership
And it starts on Private land
Nice job Metrojacksonville. I bought my ticket.
Will the line up of vendor participants be announced soon?
Yes. We're currently anticipating a total of 7 to 8 vendors.
I just got my tickets for this event. I have been to the food trucks at Rutgers University in NJ and in Portland, Oregon. I am hopeful that this event helps Jacksonville embrace the food trucks. They are great opporunities for start up businesses and are fun for the local community.
Looking forward to it. I commend those who have helped make this happen.

That's why we are doing this. Number one, a city that touts itself as being 'business friendly' should encourage ways for would-be entrepreneurs to start an affordable business. Number two, food trucks help to stimulate pedestrian activity in a dowtown that badly needs it. Number three, food trucks actually have some great food! I visited with Mother Fletchers yesterday (a participating member) and had an AWESOME sandwhich with blue cheese chips(all homemade ingredients) for the same cost as a preservative-filled Big Mac combo meal. Real food tastes better!

How many tickets have been donated to City Hall?

I will personally buy as much food as Mayor Brown wants if he brings his family down. I personally think his kids would love it!
I know the mayor's office is reading this. That offer is 100% serious!!
Yeah it would be great if the Mayor comes out. Maybe during the event talk to him about the laws against food trucks downtown and the possibility of changing those laws.
See, I think the mayor would be OK, but personally I think you need all of the players that are writing the bad policy so they can see first hand what they're legislating AGAINST.
Whether they show up or not, I know this will be a great event if for no other reason, I have an excuse to go drink and eat and be merry (as if I need one. ;) )
I would assume your plan, Field, is after this one exceeds expectation, to try and do another in the core on one of our many surface lots in a few months?

Seeing how the City has treated Intuition in regard to food trucks, your plan sounds like a fantastic way to get the whole event shut down.

The original idea was to do it in a downtown location like Hemming Plaza. It would be a great affordable programming concept that gets people to actually use the space as opposed to pulling up benches and making it illegal to play chess in the park. However, city regulations make it pretty difficult and financially unfeasible to pull off on public property.
Ben said is was a zoning issue.
My guess would be that it's at BCB instead of IAW for that reason.

Sort of what I figured. Would it be more feasible to do it next to Ian's place - Pheonix?

I wonder if code enforcement has been telling Ben a load of bull? I haven't found in the code where it states he can't have a truck on his property due to its zoning classification.

We've been told by the city that we are in violation of our zoning by having a food truck serving food on our property.
Green Room Brewing out at the beach has been told they can not have food trucks at their business either.
Seems like both cities would want the option of food available to people that are enjoying local beer.
Great idea! I'll be there with a posse to support the neighborhood. Will RAP be there to protest the colors of the trucks? Can I bring my Intuition growler of I-10 IPA?
hmm good reasont o be at BCB at 11am :) great start for saturday :)

Yeah, he said it was a zoning issue. I believe both properties share the same zoning. So, what is a a problem for one is a problem for the other.

Food trucks rely heavily on social media. As such, our event will rely heavily on social media.
If you 'like' the Jax Truckies facebook page, starting next week we'll start announcing participants.
Thank you to all who have bought tickets so far. Based on the awesome response so far, this event will sell out quick.
We knew there was pent up demand in this town for food trucks... the city is going to have to start looking favorably on these efficient ways to create small business growth and encourage pedestrian activity downtown.
VIP is already sold out!!! Still have regular admission tickets remain at $5 a piece.
Actual food tickets will be for sale on the day of the event.
Congratulations Field and the MJ team!!!!! You all have just knocked it out of the park. The administration should be taking notes. Public/Private/Partnership
First official truck is announced:

Actually most of the RAP board are regulars at Intuition and really miss the food trucks just like the rest of us. It isn't RAP that's been giving Ben problems with Code Enforcement, it's the crazy person across the street.
Now say you're sorry! :)
Sales have been brisk. I guess there's a pent up demand for something like this in Jacksonville. Hopefully, the mayor's office and city council will take notice. With that said, as of 6pm today, there's 21 tickets remaining before the event is sold out.
Two tickets left.
About an hour ago, the first Jax Truckies event sold out. Thanks for everyone's support and we look forward to event day. Stay tuned for further updates.
On The Fly Sandwiches & Stuff will be participating as well:

Food Truck Bazaars popping up all over Orlando area.
From the Daytona News-Journal:
http://www.news-journalonline.com/lifestyle/food/2012/02/29/food-trucks-go-gourmet-make-way-toward-area.html (http://www.news-journalonline.com/lifestyle/food/2012/02/29/food-trucks-go-gourmet-make-way-toward-area.html)
QuoteLast March, Central Florida promoter Mark Baratelli seized on the idea of bringing many of the trucks together in a festival atmosphere for regularly scheduled evening or weekend events. His first monthly Food Truck Bazaar in Orlando took place that month. Monthly events since have been added in Kissimmee, Sanford, Casselberry, Oviedo and other locations.
The first Food Truck Bazaar in Volusia County is scheduled 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of Lowe's Home Improvement in Orange City. It will be repeated on the first Sundays of April and May, says Flores, who was instrumental in persuading the City Council in Orange City to approve the event on a three-month trial. Baratelli says he'll send 10 to 15 trucks to the inaugural event, and add more for subsequent events if warranted.
A one-time Food Truck Bazaar is scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. March 29 at Port Orange City Center to kick off Port Orange Family Days' four-day Spring Fair.
A Food Truck Bazaar is set to debut March 30 from 5 to 8 p.m. in New Smyrna Beach; it's planned for the fifth Friday of each of the four months that have one in 2012. Liz Yancey, parks and recreation director for the city, which is sponsoring the event, says 15 to 20 trucks are expected and Flagler Avenue will close to traffic to allow patrons to stroll among them.
"It's a family-friendly event based on food," Baratelli says. "I've grown it slowly from one event with eight trucks, taking care to put it in communities I thought would embrace and enjoy it. ... By the end of March, we'll be in 10 cities."
I paid for two VIP tickets the first day this was posted. Do these tickets get mailed to me? I'm not sure how it works. Glad I did this early, though, so I didn't miss out!
When you purchased online, you're name and amount of tickets were automatically added to the event's check in list. When you show up, just present your name or a copy of your receipt and you're all good.
Thank you!

btw....kudos (or bouquets as Folio Weekly put it) to Mike Field for organizing this event!
Make this weekly and move it to hemming plaza :)
^That would be great. However, COJ would have to officially be on board and modify policy to allow it to happen.

Additionally, we are going to have bins out to collect canned goods. For those attending, please consider bringing a few canned goods(or a few extra dollars) the day of the event that will go directly to Second Harvest of North Florida.
A few facts:
*More than 342,000 individuals in the Second Harvest service area are deemed to be “food insecure†â€" which means they might not be hungry, but they also don’t know when they will eat again. Of that total, more than 117,000 are children.
*The fastest-growing population in this food-insecure group is the working poor â€" households that have working members but can’t make ends meet, often times forced to substitute other bills and expenses for money that would have been used to buy food.
*In the 18-county area served by Second Harvest North Florida, 136,269 people are in this class of working poor with no access to federal or state benefits and often limited means to buy food (SNAP, WIC, Free lunch at school).

QuoteJacksonville, Fla. - We are doing something a little different on the restaurant report this week. We are taking you inside BBQ Jax - one of our clean plate award winners of the week.
Bill Skipper loves Jacksonville, he loves BBQ and he loves a clean kitchen. He is the proud owner of a mobile catering kitchen and loves serving food on the go at events all around Northeast Florida.
Bill says if you clean as you go - you'll never have a problem. He is former military and is very serious about being clean. He is also serious about his dry rub recipe which is a secret that no one knows - except for his business parter who also happens to be his wife.
Bill's favorite item on his catering menu is the pulled pork sandwich. He says he only serves it fresh and hot, "I don't usually pull the pork until it's time to serve the customer."
We asked, "What's the difference between your kitchen and a kitchen at a restaurant." Bill says, "There's no difference. We have the same standards and we are inspected by the same people."
The inspector found zero violations insideBBQ Jax. Here
^Saw the same report. Can't wait for the event.
Tera Barz makes my HDTV very happy.
Still not too late to go to the Faceook page and win your way in.

Same. I am one of the people bemoaning that it was sold out before I heard about it.
I can't wait!!!
A few notes to those attending:
1-Please be patient. We have limited attendance specifically to avoid queue time problems other food truck festivals have faced in other cities, but there will still be some long lines at times. All of the food trucks want to serve you good food as quick as possible, so while waiting for food you are welcome to strike up great conversation with fellow foodies while enjoying Bold City's fine local brews.
2-Some proceeds from the event are helping Second Harvest feed our city. We will have donation bins for canned food donations on hand, donation buckets if you would like to give a few dollars to Second Harvest and will be selling 'I Love Jax Food Trucks' buttons for $1 that will go directly towards Second Harvest. 1 in 4 children are underfed in our city. Second Harvest helps feed them.
3-PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE be respectful of our neighbors and do not park in anyone's yard or block any streets.
4-VIP starts at 11AM and regular admission starts at noon.
5-Have fun and let your city councilperson know of your support for this industry in your town. This is YOUR city, make it worth living in!
If you didn't give free tickets to your city council person, do a face slap on yourself! Missed opportunity!
(Mumble, mumble, silly amateurs)
Thank you to Field, other MJ reps, bold city and the food vendors for a great time. Despite the rain, there was a strong showing.
This evidences the popularity of the food trucks and metrojacksonville.
Yes, major props to all involved for an awesome event. Wonderful food and a strong, happy crowd in spite of the rain. The wife and I were very pleased.
DVI should be kicking themselves that this wasn't downtown.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to all that came out. The next one will be even better now that we have a feel about how many people that trucks can accomodate (more people and MORE TRUCKS).
Will let you all know when that will be. Many different sites are now clammoring for events (imagine that).
On the Fly will be at Art Walk tonight!!!!! Come over to the Florida Theatre and enjoy some great food and see what food trucks have to offer in Jacksonville.
Proceeds will be going towards Team Hayden:
Hayden Brooks Chadwell was born on April 28, 2011 at 35 weeks gestation via emergency c-section. He weighed only four lbs and had trouble breathing (which required surgery for a rare condition). He lived in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Wolfson’s Childrens Hospital for 82 days.During this time Hayden suffered a traumatic brain injury. His diagnosis was given as bilateral grade III/IV brain bleed with periventricular leukomalacia, choanal atresia, severe gerd, seizure disorder, cortical vision impairment, thrombosis, g-tube fed, and will have severe global developmental delay with spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy.
Doctors said all the things Hayden wouldn’t do, specifically: see, eat, feel, hear, sit, crawl, stand, think, have a long life, etc. He is enrolled in the PedsCare program of Hospice, a palliative care program for children with life-long serious illness/medical fragility. He is also receiving therapy and family services from DLC Nurse & Learn Center, Early Steps, Children Medical Services, ELKS, Florida School for The Deaf & The Blind, and New Heights.
Team Hayden is a community of family and friends, doctors and nurses, educators and advocates, therapists and believers who see no boundaries and want to push that mustard seed. We are currently seeking a tax exemption/ 501c-3 status to help other families in the NICU.
Today, Hayden can hear. He is accepting food by spoon and bottle. He is tracking some with his eyes. He smiles and coos. He feels the wind on his face! He is rolling over (new milestone as of March 23). Team Hayden won’t give up.
Well, I know where I'm going tonight, after Chomp Chomp. Options are a good thing!
YUM!!!!
