If arrogance and talking over people leads to success in talk radio, and obviously it does, for Sean Hannity and his ilk, then this Dean guy has a bright future in radio.
Excellent interviewing Stephen.
I believe the radio station is WOKV, not WOKF.
Seems to me that the "talking over" people thing in news media is an unfortunate byproduct of trying to cram lots of information in a small window, especially if you're trying to debate several intricate topics into thirty minutes. This didn't come off to me as arrogant at all; if either Andy or Stephen were actually arrogant, this interview would have either not happened or would have taken an antagonistic tone, neither of which I could detect.
On another note, I was sort of underwhelmed by the WJCT forum last week. I have a feeling that MetroJax could do something like that a little better, with much more content. That said, this interview was quite entertaining and worth the listen, and I think MJ should do it a lot more stuff like it if you guys can. Hard to believe you don't have a bigger local radio presence, Stephen...
I'd rather listen to Clark Howard than this arrogant bozo.
I think WJCT's approach was sort of, "well, this is how the 'Big Boys' do it, we should do it the same way," and it was really stiff (among other choice adjectives). The owner of Burro Bags (Twatchman, I believe), was the most valuable panelist IMO, only because Ennis was restrained by the structure. Twatchman is 'just a guy'; he simply spoke his mind and it was refreshing. I'm sure there were countless other things Ennis wanted to or could have discussed but couldn't.
You asked a long time ago if any of us would be interested in MJ endeavors in other media outlets. I said "yes" then, and say "yes" again now.
A roundtable discussion of your own concoction, you ask? I'd say "hell yes" to that idea. Same for a daily/weekly radio show, or anything that sheds more light on happenings around town that the average person apparently doesn't know are happening...
I agree the WJCT forum was limiting....the First Coast Connect radio show the day before was actually a bit more free form
Mr. Dean was correct on every topic discussed. He is a brilliant guy.
I say lots of positive things Stephen. See my history forum entries. Politics, on the other hand bring out the worst in people. Wouldnt you agree?
Stephen, what's your definition of capitalism?
Wow .... what a talk show lineup to follow -- Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity. And Mr. Dean has filled in for the likes of Herman Cain and Neal Boortz ... and worked at one time for the best mind of recent decades .. Mr. Donald Trump. Mr. Dean is nothing more than a small, rather pitiful parrot, parroting the shallow idiocy of the Conservative far right.
Mitt Romney's Bain Capital owns Clear Channel, which owns Premier Networks, which distributes many Conservative talk radio shows such as the above lineup. I wonder how much "big money" from the one percent is injected into Conservative Talk Shows so that they can continue to spew the absurd junk we've become used to?
Is the partnership between this particular media conglomerate and the conservative talking heads designed to disseminate truth, or to vomit up junk and lies supporting the conservative / elitist positions ..... ultimately the positions of the one percent?
Here we have Andy Dean, an obviously shallow fellow, unfortunately infected with the diseased thinking of the far right Conservatives, a fellow who, like the other talking heads, must attempt winning debates and arguments by loud, rude, and interrupting vocalizations, overpowering by shear weight of nonsense ... such is the manner of these idiots - some of whom should be slapped silly by those interrupted so that they might refrain from this rude and unproductive habit.
"Clear Channel has shown a tendency to drop liberal talk affiliations whenever possible and replace it with satellite Fox Sports talk (see, for instance, WCKY, WARF, KLSD, WXKS [which currently runs the Clear Channel conservative talk format instead], and WINZ); this has, in a few rare circumstances, caused protests, such as those involved when Clear Channel wanted to make the same move with WXXM in Madison, Wisconsin (WXXM was eventually allowed to keep its liberal format)." (fr. Raymond Pronk)
Mr. Dean, and other conservative talking heads engage in shallow thinking which, although admired by our growing population of mentally dwarfed, evangelical, and therefore uninformed listeners, thinks he is eloquent and persuasive, but he is only one more talking head, unable to perceive the complexities or depths of his material, and therefore he fails to perceive sufficient reality so that he might make a reasonably convincing case for the truth of whatever subject he engages.
The speed at which Mr. Dean speaks, as with O'reilly and others, should be a clue as to the lack of good content in the mind. Using loudness, rapid speech, and rudeness to overpower an opponent is a sure sign that one has little else to offer; things such as considered thought having within it components which might actually address the essence and truth of whatever subject is at hand.
I suggest that Mr. Dean slow down, grow up a little more, get some years behind him in the real world, so that he might begin to think with some depth and accuracy about the subjects he attempts to engage; because so far, he has only shown that he is excessively ignorant, loud, rude, verbally overbearing, and therefore, a little stupid..... and to be honest, quite boring.

Well it helps that he is also very cute and appealing in person.
He is actually very bright, even if his politics and commentary don't seem to suggest it.
I rather liked him, and would hope that as he learns more about the world outside of the rarified environments that we discussed in the interview he will get more grounded in the world as it actually is.
Beauty is everywhere in nature, and increases with the appearance of truth, no matter the view or scenario. I agree that physical beauty and cuteness can be a factor to consider in one's opinion of a person, especially if one anticipates future physical interaction of some sort. I've had attractive girlfriends along the way, who seemed (although perhaps via an error from my perspective at the time) somewhat mediocre mentally ... a condition quite okay, as the ultimate objective was sex, and not to attempt understanding societal wrongs and solutions.
Beauty is indeed physical, but beauty also lies within the mind, the latter being the most important in issues of society and government, and ultimately in the media. Given that Mr. Dean is not engaging movies as an actor, I hope he succeeds in improving his mental qualities, as the media has the important tendency to influence both positively or negatively the opinions of those listening or reading.
Yes, he might be bright ... mentally stimulated and verbose. A person can be bright at four years old, but will hopefully gain better views of reality through the years ... and perhaps with time, a good measure of wisdom. I extend good wishes and hope to Mr. Dean that he engages greater reality over the years.
