The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority announced Wednesday that Tri-Rail carried more passengers in 2007 than during any previous year since its inception in 1989.
Tri-Rail transported 3,501,704 riders, marking a 10.2 percent increase over the previous high of 3,177,573 passengers in 2006. The highest single ridership day was Dec. 14, when Tri-Rail carried 13,981 passengers.
Since completing its corridor double-tracking program in March 2006, Tri-Rail ridership has increased by more than 31 percent.
The authority operates 50 daily trains on weekdays and 16 on weekends and holidays, serving 18 stations from Miami to Mangonia Park, including all three of the region's international airports.
