Title: Robert's Eatery-CBS 47
Post by: Noone on December 02, 2011, 06:43:43 AM
Robert was just recognized on CBS 47 and their restaurant report. Congratulations Robert! He should be at the Wells Fargo at 8th and Main today. I went by yesterday and had the pork chop sandwich with his mild sauce. It was awesome. Call first 485-0273 and it can be ready when you pull up. At the least just drive by and buy a soda or water.

Springfield where is the love?

Doug I still owe you and Jacob a culinary experience. If you want to substitute Jacob and insert Tom Ingram we can kayak Hogans or McCoys next week or both then hit Robert's. ( I'll still treat again later with Jacob. You have to be so proud of him.)

Next week some awesome conditions to experience our Downtown Urban Waterway Destinations.

Open to anyone. Lets Make It Happen.

If it is outside the historic district then I bet very few metrojacksonville readers or even residents of the historic district have visited there or even heard of it.

Robert needs a facebook page so he can check in and let us know where he is at so we can support!

Springfielder,John P and iloveionia thanks for responding back. The facebook connection is a good one and something that we talk about as we both discuss the issue of how we can grow our businesses.

I first met Robert about a year ago at 8th and Ionia and it was in the winter time. It was a sporty day wind was strong and I just pulled in. He was starting a new venture (A dream that for people that enjoy cooking ultimately leads to owning a restaurant) That's what he talks about. I got the sausage dog with the slaw and a coke and I was good and then back on the road.

He has tried a bunch of strategies and locations and in the meantime has expanded his craft to include chicken wings and a pork chop sandwich. There are occasions where he'll pull out the BBQ smoker. He had that at the Hyatt after a Pub Crawl and that was awesome. I got a chicken wing order of about 20 or 30 to go.

The key right now in my opinion is I'll call and find out where he is set up. He marinates his pork chops and chicken wings and it is slowly starting to take off. When you pull up your order can be ready and ready to go. Or if you get there and want a pork chop sandwhich and then he has to put it on the grill and now will take some time to cook it. You can wait or get something else. What is interesting are the looks on potential customer faces. You mean that pork chop sandwhich isn't ready NOW!

We all have restaurant stories. I'll give you my quick one. My problem is portion control. Ever go out with a group of people and your steak, fish, chicken, comes out and you are then discussing the size of your order. Hey did you order the whole chicken or half the chicken. That's one big piece. I'm starting to go with the pork chop sandwiches and almost every single time I get one if he hasn't run out they have been huge. I share this with everyone because that one experience can be the forever label ban and nothing you can say or do may bring that person back.

Another bond that we share is wanting to participate in the American Dream in Jacksonville and then being legislatively shut down. During the last election candidates that were running for city council met Robert and I would listen to his experience dealing with the city. I'll always remember Jill Dame running in Dist.14 and the 2010-856 transient vendor ban was an active piece of legislation. Lindsay Brock also met Robert. Another bond that all of us share is that we all kayaked Hogans Creek.

Robert and I always talk about how we could combine a kayak paddle with a culinary experience. Right now we both agree its not happening DOWNTOWN.

Springfielder, John P,send me a pm and we'll go.

Nicole, I know you have been by and Robert and his kids showed up at a Springfield Make it Happen event.

Shout out to fsujax, Keith n Jax, Duvaldude or other Jag fans Robert was going to the game last night give him a call and share your own stories.

MJ has an impact on this community. Lets continue to Make It Happen.

Robert will be at 26th and Evergreen today. 9-1. Has two jobs.  No pork chops has the chicken wings and saussage and dogs. Call first 485-0273

Taking another mover and shaker kayaking and showing them an Urban Downtown Waterway Destination on our St. Johns River our American Heritage River a Federal Initiative and asking the question.  Will we be allowed to participate? Maybe we'll hit Robert's too.

Springfield,

Where is the love? Robert will be at 26th and Evergreen today. Call first. 485 0273. I'll be going by later. I was up early and actually those chicken wings are melting in my mouth right now.

Robert and I went kayaking yesterday on McCoys Creek and under the TU. His mother is in the hospital. When I see him I ask has anyone from metrojacksonville been by or called. No.

I know that I've upset or I can also get how the cold shoulder can occur with posters and getting under the skin on issues with people. I just hope that its not being directed toward Robert. He was at an SOS Make It Happen event. If you don't like the food selections you can at least get a soda or water. I know for some things are a little bit tough. I just think that its amazing that a plea or rquest from someone on this forum can generate such outpouring and support on other issues.
I think I get it.

I'm just saying that I can handle the rejection because to a certain degree I'm use to it. Here's my number 434-0839 and I'll treat you to 10 or 20 wings today. I'd like to hear the constructive crticism on how I may be able to communicate better.

nothing against you or Robert. I haven't had a chance to eat his food yet. But 26th and Evergreen is just far out of my way today (and most days for that matter).

Noone. I dont think you are very familair with Springfield or its residents. The historic part of Springfield is like the historic part of Riverside. The same type of people and likes and wants. Asking someone from historic Springfield to go eat at 26 and Evergreen is like asking someone from historic Riverside to go eat at the chicken place at Stockton and Edison. Its a different neighborhood even though not very far apart and not a place where most hippe artsy yuppy Riversiders or Springfielders are going to feel comfortable or find attractive to them.

Robert needs a facebook page.
He can make friends with folks and update where he is each day.
My 2 cents of a suggestion.

John P, that was quite a generalization there.  Many, many Springfielders, such as myself, don't work in the Springfield area.  Getting to 26th and Evergreen, and back to the Avenues area in an hour isn't happening.  For that matter, even if Robert were in Historic Springfield every day, I couldn't get there for lunch.  And it would have nothing to do with my comfort level with the neighborhood.  :-)

Robert will be at the Wells Fargo at 8th and Main Friday 12/30. Not sure of the exact times. Solid bet between 9-1.

Anybody want to kayak under the TU? We'll take it from Robert's and go directly to a Downtown Destination that will have us on an Urban Waterway which is our St. Johns River our American Heritage River a Federal Initiative.

We Khan Make It Happen.

It requires legislation. To do it right and be safe.

FIND is good. Jacksonville is LOST.

Visit Jacksonville.
Just not on our Waterway Downtown.

City council meeting in 11 days Waterways meeting in 12.

So anyone want  a kayak paddle with a culinary experience  under the Times Union on McCoys Creek? Pro Bono.

Saw Robert today and he will be at the Wells Fargo 8th and Main tomorrow from 9-2. I'm calling ahead for the chicken wings and pork chop sandwich 485-0273. I hope he runs out.

Plan on making a scene Downtown at the kayak launch at Hogans Creek this week. Will share with everyone another Downtown adventure. Big announcements coming soon. Congratulations to Mayor Brown for continuing to make Downtown a Destination and not a pass through as it relates to Public Access and Economic opportunity to our St. Johns River our American Heritage River a Federal Innitiative.

I am Downtown!

Robert will be at Wells Fargo at 6th and Main today. Call first 485-0273. He can't wait for the next Main St. Cruise. He talked about the Art Walk the other day. Another perspective.
