Title: Ball drop
Post by: gatorback on December 27, 2007, 06:24:35 PM
Is there a Ball Drop in Jacksonville on Dec. 31?  I heard lots of cities have ball drops just like in Times Square.  Does Jacksonville, FL do Ball Drops?  ::)

The only ball drop I know is when JTA dropped the ball on commuter rail.

Okay, so here's the question:  What kind of light bulbs does the new ball use?
You are correct.  LEDS.

This isn't your father's ball kids.  Way cool.

So why DVI no plan something like this for New Years Eve Jacksonville, Florida

Well, we do have fireworks.
Back in the day when the Independent Life Building (oops, Modis) had that robot window cleaner (it ran in the tracks between the windows), we had a ball (or something) rise to the top, which cued the fireworks display.  But the robot retired years ago, so now it is just fireworks at midnight.  And adult beverages at the Landing.

I think a good old fashion ball drop at the landing would be a great way to start the new year with fireworks to follow.
