Title: Blight In Jax

Editorial in todays TU.

Anyone who drives through some Northwest Jacksonville neighborhoods and parts of the city's urban core will find unpleasant sights and disgusting reminders of neglect.Piles of trash scattered alongside residential streets. Boarded up houses. Overgrown lots. Deteriorated structures not safe to live in, but ideal for drug houses.

Those sights exist, in part, because of what city officials concede was years of lackadaisical enforcement.

But there is good news: The city's newly reorganized Municipal Code Compliance Division is working aggressively to eliminate the unsightly and unsafe conditions.

I hope this is true.  The rest of the editorial is at http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/122607/opi_228857955.shtml (http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/122607/opi_228857955.shtml)
