Title: Vegan pastry chef looking for work
Post by: aubureck on October 27, 2011, 03:32:43 PM
I'm not sure where to post this but thought I'd at least try here.

My sister-in-law is a professionally trained pastry chef who has been attempting for quite a while to find a job (in the wrong city).  She is also a vegan and is constantly experimenting with recipes to make vegan versions of every kind of dessert she can think of.  We finally convinced her to come to Jax and at least scope out the area to see if this might be a place she'd to move to.

Does anyone know of any places that might need a pastry chef and/or be interested in one that would love to be able to specialize in vegan desserts.  I want to introduce her to as many potential leads as possible in the month she is here to 'scope it out.'  I'm also taking her to RAM this weekend and the Vegetarian Festival on the 5th.

Thanks

Don't quote me on it, but, the following places could help, or at minimum point you in the right direction:

Shakti Life Kitchen - http://shaktilifekitchen.com/ - Based in Atlantic Beach. Preeminent vegan cooks in town.

Grassroots Natural Market - not sure they need one, per say, but they'd definitely know where to send your sister. Extremely friendly staff, and I know they source a lot of their goods from local chefs.

Present Moment Cafe - St. Augustine - extremely well known vegan restaurant.

Native Sun - don't know much about them, but like Grassroots, I'm sure they'd know where to send her.

Thanks Ben,

Those are definitely good places to start.

There are a couple of New York restauranteurs who are working on a business plan to open a Vegan restaurant in Riverside.  It will be six or seven months before anything jells though.

Augustine Grill, Salt and 500 South are all high-end restaurants that specialize in farm-to-table offerings and would be great places to start.

Also French Pantry, Gilmons, Cinottis and Petras all do significant wholesale business and would be other great leads.

Can you tell me ANYTHING else about this?
