Title: Extension of Monorail to Riverside/Avondale [Subway Plans too]
Post by: iLenin on October 12, 2011, 04:21:30 PM
The monorail is already low in ridership, and closing on weekends doesn't help.
What would help is if the line extended, helpfully into Avondale, and Riverside, (yes, I know they're in the same area) because this would really help boost ridership and it would make things easier.
Public transit is a big issue and needs to be discussed by the mayor, because if we have public transit, less highways are needed, there's less traffic, and pollution.
I know, this costs a lot of money and a lot of time (the NYC 2nd avenue line, from last year, is going to be until 2016) but it would be worth it.
Another option is the a subway. Again, this costs money and takes time, but would be an easy way to get around town. Mostly, it would be like :

Blue Line : runs through riverside, avondale. Last stop would probably be Roosevelt Station, in its respective namesake. Stations: Acosta Station, Park St. Station, Roosevelt Station, River Station (near Publix), Warren Station (at the end of the fuller warren) and Jackson station (McDuff.) Trains : R S B L and 9 express
Metro Line : runs from the end of the Blue line at Acosta Station, which is a major meeting point, down to San Marco. It has elevated track or street level track on the "blue bridge" (John T. Alsop building.) Stations: Acosta Station, Wells Fargo station (at the old Modis building), Library Station, Bridge Station (at the end of the John t. Alsop bridge), LaVilla Station, San Marco Station (W F transfers). Trains: W F M L 9e and 6 express (6e)
Red Line runs from San Marco Station on the 6e and runs down to San Jose. Stations: San Marco Station.. Other than that, I don't know. It'd be a short line. trains : O P L 6e
FDR Line runs from San Jose station (at the end of the Red Line) to Buckman Subway Tunnel. San Jose Station, Buckman Station (at the beginning of buckman bridge going into Roosevelt and Orange Park),Mandarin Stations, Delano Station, Roosevelt Station
Red Line : runs through San Marco to the near west side (second plans)
If you have any suggestions, let me know.
I have an idea for an orange line in orange park, but I don't know my way around it

We have a plan in place for streetcar in Riverside and I believe that is the best transit solution for that area.  The problem is the city council put a moratorium on collecting it's funding last night.

Other than the fact that its been already posted declared that there's going to be a new way of transit is it a good idea?

Skyway would work but Streetcar would be more true to the historic nature of Riverside.  The Subway would not work because Riverside is too close to sea level to have tunnels. I would like to see sky way to Riverside park on the north end of five points but Streetcar in the heart of Riverside.  Yes iLenin it is a good idea.

What I really think is that the taxpayer money should not be going towards a football team - something purely recreational. While I see this can be a.. happiness booster, so to speak, it's a little impractical. personally I see getting from place to place as a bigger thing.
The subway, correct, would not work due to most of the areas at sea level. Some would be above ground but more inland where the water is, say, lower, it would be underground.
Mostly the cars would be R-142s like in NYC - for obvious practical reasons. These trains are durable and comftorable, but LIRR trains would work aswell.
The street car sounds fine, but what would be its purpose other than to get around riverside? We don't move around that much, but we admit, something from riverside to downtown would be fine.
