Jacksonville to pay IRS $140,380 in back taxes

Jacksonville has agreed to pay $140,380 to the Internal Revenue Service after a recent audit uncovered record-keeping flaws.

The IRS found the city allowed employees to use city-issued phones for personal business, without counting any portion of the service as taxable income, allowed some retirees to defer more income than legally allowed and allowed other retirees to improperly use tax-deferred income to pay health insurance premiums.
