Anyone here drive flex-fuel in search of E85 stations?

I do, but the 1 time it was available it wasn't worth it. The rule of thumb (I heard) is it must be 10% cheaper than regular gasoline because your vehicle is going to get 10% less MPG.
That's a generic rule. There is a a calculator here:
http://e85prices.com/milesperdollar.htm
but I just go by the 10% rule when out and about.

Yeah, it costs MORE to create ethanol blends than normal gasoline, and you get a 10% reduction in mileage on top of it. You actually get screwed twice on it. Not to mention that, when you realize the fuel economy negates any potential savings, and that it takes a significant amount of petroleum products to create ethanol (distilling, transporting it, farming operations for corn base, etc.) the promised environmental benefits not only do not exist, but it's actually a net negative. You pay more, you use more gas, and to top it all off, it actually causes higher greenhouse gas emissions, thereby defeating its entire point.

This is a boondoggle that needs to be eliminated.

How retarded that they're still parading this nonsense around. As others have said, it takes energy to make the energy. And when you have the likes of BP, Gate, and George W Bush (big oil family) promoting it, it's probably safe to say its in their best interests.

No, the next gen of energy tech should be putting all their asses outta business. Electric cars & higher capacity batteries is the way forward. With charging stations getting their power from the grid (and eventually 100% renewable sources like solar).

Everyone knows this & its really not up for discussion anymore. Its the established path that we're on now. But of course that won't stop idiots like these Gate people from talking about ethanol & wasting everyone's time. I at least hope the food is good & there's an open bar at their little conference.

No food, no bar, just open discussion of pros and cons which previous posters have mentioned.

October 16 is National Plug-in Day for those interested in electric cars.  Stay tuned for more info on a local event.

Check out the video of the Gate discussion on alternative fuels.  Buzz discusses a variety of issues and suggests liquified natural gas as a promising future option among others:

We use B-20 in our car.  The biodiesel percentage is made from used fryer oil; essentially a waste product.  It is evident that we are supporters of using bio-fuels when they make sense.

But corn based ethanol is NUTS!

Many of us with high performance cars actually love it! We get a huge power boost from E85 when we tune for it. And we dont have to use 91 octane which in many cases is an extra dollar more expensive. Gate Premium running at $3.38 and E85 at Gate running $2.38, the $1 per gallon for high performance cars makes a difference in your wallet. Burns cleaner and while not in all American cars, is a good alternative to premium.

mtrain coming out of retirement and resurrecting an 8 year old post just to point out multiple times that he has a "high performance car"..... What an mtrain thing to do.
