Title: New commerical on Main Street
Post by: Spar Council 1869 on September 14, 2011, 08:20:56 PM
We're extremely pleased to tell you about a few exciting commerical happenings on Main Street!

"The Transformation of State and Main" celebration, hosted by the developers of the project, is set for September 29th, 5pm, on site (the former Park View Inn). Hors d'Å"uvres and drinks will be served along with a presentation about the development.

The owners of Carmines Pie House of Riverside are in negotiations to purchase the 9th & Main building. We've been supporting this for months and hope to see the deal done soon.

The new Suntrust branch will be opening in early October and we'll be participating in the ribbon cutting ceremony on October 7th, with a community Suntrust "Fall Harvest" event scheduled later in the month.

More details to come. If you want to keep up with what's going in the Springfield Historic District, be sure to check our facebook page, website, and subscribe to our new bi-weekly newsletter, The Spar Scoop.

Great news! I think Carmines will do very well at that location.

I had heard from several people recently that an Italian Restaurant (not pizza) was negotiating to lease 9th and Main from the city - did this not pan out?  Maybe its the same biz?

I"m in love with Carmines...but...i have seen many groups..not just restaurants start up..get going and doing well and then something happens...they get tooo big for their britches way too soon..i know they are probably trying to make a run on the early sucess but many have proven that slow steady growth is better in the long run...i'm just sayin'...if anything maybe they should take over the property behind them to get a little large at that spot..

The owners of Carmine's have extensive history in the restaurant business and know what they are doing.

They are negotiating but it is not a done deal yet.............................

Hopefully they can get it done because it would be a nice addition to Main St and also provide the type of
"Neighborhood Friendly and Mother Approved" businesses Springfield needs.

Yeah. Isn't it bad form to announce something like this if the deal isn't finalized....??  Smooth move Ferguson.

Yup  agree 100% with Captain.  Thats why contracts are usually confidential.  Any leaked info can muck up the deal.

I just love it when folks take a positive thing and turn it negative... Good one, Cap'n.

Wow Gonzo, read much??  If the deal gets compromised due to the details being leaked prematurely, then we're all SOL.  I'd love to see Carmine's open in Springfield.  I live a half mile from the one in Riverside, so I doubt I would ever go to the other location, but it would be great for the (your) neighborhood.  I don't want the deal to get canceled.  That is why I said what I did.  Maybe it was a little brash, but my intentions were good and had no malice, especially towards Carmines, Springfield or Main Street.  I was merely pointing out SPAR's lack of tact.  So great job bud, way to call me out.

Well, at least now I know why we've been getting the run around from everyone downtown that has anything to do w/ the 9th &Main property. I've been trying to get info on how to purchase and who to purchase from and was getting no answers and no call backs from anyone.. I guess this is why. I have an out of state investor/ friend who is very interested in the building. She has developed and maintained several bar/ restaurant businesses all up the East coast. I had her convinced that 9th &Main would be a great spot for her next venture, and it would.. But, getting no answers from anyone has soured her.. Maybe if this falls through, she could still be the back up plan.. I do wish Carmines all the best. Any one, in fact, that invests in the building for that matter..

Captain     it has all been in public records and the city disclosed the information in a public meeting. I am surprised nobody found out before.

SOXFAN:

For the Record, The city put out a Request for Proposals on 1850 N Main and (as far as I know) did not get one inquiry.  They have another fantastic building across from the Ritz Theater that also has tremendous potential, and someone is after that one too.  There is no shortage of "project" spaces in Springfield. Try looking into anything that Craig Van Horne owned, most of it has been foreclosed on or is going to be.

That's not entirely true... no one put a 'qualifying' offer on it.  There was a group, that owns a successful night club, that did put a bid out on it but they didn't meet the city's price for the building(IMO one that is too high to begin with).

I heard there was more to it than just the low bid.

I knew about the RFP from last year, but have been inquiring about the 9th &Main property for a couple of months now. We get answering machines and no call backs from the powers that be downtown. I'm not a real estate person or the investor, just a hoodie who suggested the building to a friend who does this stuff for a living. She had sold her last business in Murrel's Inlet and was getting itchy to do it again. We started making calls to find out how to buy the property. We got no answers from anyone. We were given numbers of some city people to call who were supposedly the people to call. None of them answer their phones or return calls when you leave messages. I guess, because of Carmine's, the city doesn't need to give the info to anyone else..

The Epicurean has a new owner who is planning on opening a cafe there. I believe opening by Dec 1st.

I HAVE heard a rumor there is a buyer from Atlanta for the Fusion or whatever it's name is now....has anyone else heard about this?
