While we are still working on retro-fitting our cities to be eco-friendly, China has started the wave of the future by building eco-cities from scratch:

Well ok. 

But how many thousands of acres of greenfield are they going to destroy in order to build an eco-city?  Retro-fitting existing is better than sacrificing more greenfield, no?
