RailAmerica to create logistic hub

RailAmerica Inc., among the nation's largest short-line railroad operators, plans to create transportation logistic centers in Jacksonville and four other locations.

Other centers will be in Roseburg, Ore.; Phillipsburg, Kan.; Vassar, Mich.; and Stellarton, Nova Scotia, Canada.

The Jacksonville center will support New England Central Railroad, Connecticut Southern Railroad, South Carolina Central Railroad, Carolina Piedmont Railroad, North Carolina & Virginia Railroad, Virginia Southern Railroad, Chesapeake & Albemarle Railroad, Alabama Gulf Coast, Eastern Alabama Railway, and Massena Terminal Railroad. The center will have eight transportation logistics specialists, four lead transportation logistic specialists, two revenue specialists, one car control specialist and one collection specialist.

Positions will be filled by a combination of employees already working in these cities, employees relocating and new hires, RailAmerica Vice President David Rohal said.

Transitions from current operations to the transportation logistics centers are expected to occur over the next six months.

RailAmerica operates over 7,800 miles of track on its 41 railroads, serving more than 150 sites available for industrial development.

That's great news.  I wonder if this decision has anything to do with the announced expansions at JaxPort?
