For the past few days, the medians up and down Atlantic Blvd from the Hart Bridge expressway down to at least Empire Point have been surrounded by those orange reflective barrels (whatever they're called). Anybody know why? Neighbors aren't sure either but rumors are they're ripping up the medians and replacing them to eliminate all center-lane turns.
Is there a city website that might have the info, or a city dept I could contact?
I recall seeing notices that were posted in that same area a while ago that announced community meetings to discuss eliminating the left hand turns from the center lane. Something similar happened on Roosevelt Blvd near Ortega.
P.S. - One nickname for those barrels is 'Schneider Eggs.' So named for the orange trucks.

I believe the barriers are part of the proposed median changes that come along with the RaceTrac rebuild. I "think" they are moving forward with their original plans without closing off the opening in the median at Glengarry. Joe with the EP Neighborhood Association has the design docs I believe.
Thanks guys. There were neighborhood meetings, but thanks to my corporate overlords I wasn't able to make a single one. I REEEALLLY hope they leave that one opening!
Also, the new gas station is huge, but as gas stations go, it looks pretty good - it's all brick instead of the tacky metal and glass thing that was there before.

Yea the Hess is poorly managed and borderline disgusting inside. Somehow they cant manage to keep basic items like Gatorade in stock. I am impressed with how the RaceTrac is turning out. They must have spent a ton with all the brick work and the giant brick wall that seperates it from the houses directly behind it. They apparently didnt skimp on the landscaping either. I saw a ton of trees waiting to get planted.
The new RaceTrac stations going up remind me of the QuickTrips we had in Atlanta. Always really nice and clean.

Yeah - the Hess is a mess!
Plus, this new Racetrac is such a huge improvement on the old one, which had been there at least 20 years if not longer, and had never been cleaned up or updated. I wouldn't normally be impressed by a gas station but this is a definite step up for the property.

Looks like the median is closing in front of Glengarry after all, which stinks. Now we're stuck making inconvenient and unsafe U-turns at Empire Point or Art Museum Drive depending on where we're going or where we're coming from.

I agree that RaceTrac was overdue for a renovation. The old station was always cramped, crowded and difficult to access. From the looks of it, there will be a longer turn lane for those who are seeking to enter the station from westbound Atlantic Boulevard...

Yeah - and it's tight enough that it would be tough to make a u-turn from that turn lane but that doesn't mean I won't try. Not sure how that law office across the street merits its own turn lane but a streetful of houses doesn't.
