I was notified of a 4th of July baseball game in Klutho park in Springfield. Players dress in turn of the century uniforms and use old gear. The community holds other activities around this event. The game is 4:30pm on Monday the 4th of July. I found this old story from 2007 http://www.metrojacksonville.com/article/2007-may-springfield-heritage-throwback-baseball-east-vs-west. There is something on myspringfield website also. I attended in 2009 and it is a unique event in Jacksonville that everyone should attend at least once. In Monday's Metro section of the newspaper you will find a photograph of a volunteer repairing the scoreboard in time for the game. More events should be organized like this throughout the city.
This is a fantastic fourth of July event! Here's the flyer:

Congratulations to everyone in Springfield with this event. Way to Make it Happen.
better yet, how do you get to participate as one of the players? I live at the beach, so would I qualify as one of the east players?
Jax Native, I sent a PM to one of the people I know is involved asking him to come over here and post some info for you.
patriotic steampunk athletics!
What a cool event. Didn't someone bring up an inter-neighborhood Urban Core soccer match a while ago? Perhaps some of these fine athletes would be interested in participating!
Right now the game is just for folks living in Springfield. There was interest from other areas of the city to play games, but nothing ever panned out.
The game is fun and worth the effort to put on.

However, Springfielders would LOVE to see folks from all over Jacksonville show up for the festivities in Klutho Park!
Without a doubt EVRYBODY is welcome and wanted to see a beautiful Park being used like it should. It's great to see all the families taking in the game and all the festivities surrounding it.
Their will be concessions provided by the mommy's group of Springfield.
A nice writeup about this in the FTU today:
