Here are a few images of a model of Ock's idea to convert the Annie Lyttle School into a transportation terminal.
Annie before...

Annie after!!

Believe it or not it looks like this could be done with very little modification to the exterior structure.
Why two lines coming into it though? Since it has to reverse direction it would be hard to make use of both platforms.
I only did that because its what Ock's drawing shows.... :)
Good point though. A single line would also help to reduce the impact of the skyway through Brooklyn. Now that I think about it though, why do any of the terminal stations have dual lines? To help with the arrival times of the cars? I guess this station would work the same as the other terminals.
Just got back from having the old eye's checked and couldn't see enough to get to Starbucks! Ugh!
OMG Jason! I did see this! Great work man! I didn't think you would get to it THAT fast. Wow, I'm very impressed. Everyone face St. Augustine and applaud.
Saw the question posed about the tracks:
For flow purposes, it is always better to have one arrival and one departure track. It is something the EU does even on branchline railways. Somewhere just prior to the station itself, would be a double cross-over track. This allows flow in an "X" so trains can move in any direction. With the Skyway to Annie, I would think traffic would start to soar. IF the City invested in LRT and Bus access and made it a mini-terminal, with retail and food or even a theater, it would become a true Station with TOD within the walls. Traffic should warrant going to 4 or even 6 car trains, perhaps something with a larger design capacity, better seating etc. With that amount of traffic, it is likely that a train would arrive while another departed at least several times a day.
Anyone else have a question? I think this idea would make JTA the Hero of the City, if not Riverside/Brooklyn and 5-Points. With DuPont, Fidelity, Blue Cross and other new offices springing up in this corridor, and Annie falling down, NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT! Mr. Mayor? Mr. Blaylock? Mr. Miller? Anyone listening?
Wouldn't that be just what we need here...I'd love to see this really happen...
Jason, you are awesome!
Ock, that would be so cool if Annie Lytle were to become a station.
I hope someone somewhere who could help put this in action is paying attention.
This is an incredibly good idea which means that there is virtually no chance the City or JTA will ever adopt it. Still, you get an A for effort Ock and Jason. ;D

Exactly
I think Annie Lytle would "PULL" the development into the SW corner of the freeway pocket and allow for the complete re-development of Brooklyn, as well as touch off Riverside and 5-Points. Also, Jason and I talked about a "Grande Walk" or some such from Annies front door, under the freeway, and right through the park as a modern answer to our own "Rose Walk" or Lakelands Lakefront. Not sure if Jason's program does walkways, but if so, I suspect he may be working on it.
Another feature is the under-freeway parking area. While not huge, it would offer space for a couple hundred cars.
I would have to model the freeway to more accurately show a walkway and parking beneath. It could be done though. I'm still working on the model to more accurately render the school building. I'll just have to throw in a freeway towering above. ;)
You should add some sort of trolley terminal as well. That would be cool.
That looks awesome. I remember the first time I drove downtown I passed Annie and thought it was a sweet looking building. Now if only we can get the city to combine into one project the two things it seems to hate: historical building preservation and sensible mass transit.
Just so you guys know, over at MetJax.com I have a running journal that includes most of the models I have created and are available for download in Google Earth. I just added a few new files to finish out the LaVilla area and will be adding the rest of Brooklyn today or tomorrow. Get Google Earth (its free) and get over to MetJax.com to download all of my models to see Jax in 3D!
Here, I'll make it easy for ya...

To date, this is the best solution , to the reuse of PS 4 that I have seen or heard of. Everyone knows that I am PRO saving PS 4. I hope it can happen... I love the rendition of the building and see no reason this should not become reality
:o Jason you forgot the ghost...........
Great renditions Jason! All I see missing is the smokestack/boiler at the back of the Auditorium.
Im curious as to whether or not the plan spares the auditorium. As I understand it from the various preservation organizations, leaving it pretty much in its footprint allows for the most historic funding . I guess my concern is the Auditorium staying ,, To me that room was the most beautiful part of the interior of the School, and I think lends promise to the reuse by having concerts/movies/events there ..With the grande Stage at the back, I can envision this treasure , restored as it once was .
For that Matter, I can see through the destruction, and tell this was a state-of-the art School Building for its time .
Assuming the auditorium sits in the center of the building there should be no reason to get rid of it.
Jason...please review the multimedia on it over at Jaxoutloud It shows an extensive tour inside and out.
It is my hope the Auditorium could remain. I think it is one of the most beautiful parts of the interior. (envisioning it as it was.. I saw it once 20 years ago , completely intact. It was awesome!)
This is by far the best Idea ive heard for the School. I hope a way is found.

thanks Cooly!!!!! you Rock!!! eee
If you used Annie Lyttle as a transit terminal you could go right under the highway to riverside park straight down Margret street to memorial park. This would connect one of best(actually the best) pedestrian areas in town and three great TODs with the skyway system. shopping, dinning and living funky and mainstream versions of each plus two parks. This route would also keep the "space age" skyway from being right outside of someones 1920's home. The trolley proves we realize some need for transit here. I think you would be talking about one mile of skyway from Brooklyn to memorial park via Annie Lyttle to an area that already supports pedestrian activity.
IF only........ :(
Great plan, great work! However, it's fruition probably less than 5%. I hate to sound negative just been thru this too much. Let's keep dreaming though.
