Title: I-95 & I-10 Interchange Landscaping
Post by: ubben on June 07, 2011, 02:22:36 PM
Huge construction projects like this have a landscaping budget and this interchange did too. Yet, I've not seen anything going in and everything else seems pretty much done. No palms, oaks. No pines. Nothing. I'm sure hoping they put in some great landscaping. Even the 9A-Butler interchange has nice stands of trees. This intersection is, obviously, an extremely important gateway point for Jacksonville. Does anyone have any information about this? (Fingers crossed)

They will be doing it.  I don't believe that the FDOT and Archer Western (the contractor) have completely signed off on the entire project yet.  Given that it was a 7 year project, I can't imagine how long that punchlist is!

Warning
If any part of a plant has been ingested and the victim is experiencing difficulty breathing, swelling of the mouth or throat, burning pain, vomiting or severe stomach pains, call 911 immediately.

Yeah, FDOT budgeted one Chinese Mulberry, three young Sumac Trees, 18 Atamasco lilies, and a few Blackberry vines for the Jacksonville Interchange...  Whooo Haaaa! VISIT JACKSONVILLE Y'ALL!

FDOT won't treat us like this when we become the Capital City of "ALTA FLORIDA." You should see the Banyan Trees, Palms, Lakes and sculptured sound barrier walls the state sprang for down on the Sawgrass Expressway in Coral Springs.

That's because those FDOT districts down there put a higher emphasis on landscaping and beautification. Where our district just doesnt really care. Or they either get local money to support the added landscaping.

that is the key....since Broward County is pretty much built out, local governments partner with FDOT District 4 on road landscaping/maintenance

There was a line item for this in the FDOT 5 year plan that the TPO distributed at last night's urban core CPAC meeting.  I'll find it and post the budget amount.

Give it a few months and we'll have wind blown weed seed sprouting from joints, cracks and crevices along the entire project. They can then use the landscaping money to remove the signs of blight that will inevitably crop up along this grand gateway to our city.

$120,000? Well that ought to equate to about 50 planted palm trees and grass, so don't get your hopes up. Doesn't really matter anyway, because based on experience, JTA nor FDOT will maintain it anyway. I-95 looks like a sewer, and long stretches of Freeway, including the entire Commodore Point, and sections of the Arlington Expressway don't even have street lights. Yup... send up another palm... at least they won't have to plug it in.

The way I read tufsu1's post was that the state was going to spend $120,000 to design the landscaping, and then $1.7 million to actually plant ("construct") the landscaping.
