Title: Date Night Suggestions?
Post by: Bativac on June 02, 2011, 10:17:56 AM
Tomorrow night is date night for my wife and I and we're looking for someplace new. We typically go out, roam around a bit (window shopping, usually), have dinner, then roam around a bit more. Maybe have coffee or dessert afterwards. We've done the Town Center (more times than I care to admit), San Marco, Riverside (near Memorial Park and the area around Brick), Baymeadows, and the beaches. All several times. Anybody have any recommendations for someplace we haven't tried yet?

We try to stay away from places where we have to drive just to get dinner, then drive someplace else to walk around, then drive again for coffee. We like to drive and do our eatin' and walkin' over a three or 4 hour period.

Suggestions?

You should try Atlantic Beach.   You have a couple nice (but still casual - it's the beach) restaurants, there's a few shops you can check out, a few bars (even though you're not a big drinker) and then hit up the Sun Dog Diner for some ice cream before heading home.  Oh yeah, there's a beach, too.  ;)

Atlantic/Neptune Beach Town Center.
-Swing into one of the art galleries,
-Dinner at Sliders, Ragtime, Mezza Luna or Tamas(One Ocean if you want to splurge)
-Happy Cup Yogurt(or get a Lemon Bar Freeze at Lemon Bar!!)
-Coffee at the old Shelbys next to Sliders(or Starbucks if that is your preferance).
-Go to the lounge inside Azura @ One Ocean(inside or outside are both really cool/modern).
-You could even swing into Pete's for some quarter pool.
-End the night munching on some pancit from Meat on a Stick(behind Petes)

I should have mentioned that we do Atlantic/Neptune beach about once or twice a month. We love it down there but were just looking for something a little different. My wife didn't like my suggestion of "strip malling" our way down Beach Blvd.

+1 for Date Night: St. Augustine.
A quick drive from Jax, lot's of dining and entertainment options, and pretty romantic at night in the Old Spanish Quarter, as well as being very pedestrian friendly.

Haven't been out there myself, but maybe the World Golf Village area? They've got a lot of outlet shops out there, and I'm sure there are a couple of restaurants in the area as well. I know Caddyshack is right off 95, though I'm not sure how the quality is.

This can be a date night, but you will need a picnic basket, a wine, and big blanket.

Take a kayak stroll through the marshes in the Little Tablot / Big Tablot area few hours before sunset. After you are finished with kayaking, head over to the beaches in the Little Tablot park and enjoy your picnic.

I didn't realize they had something going on out there on Fridays. I'll run that one past the wife and see if she approves. She hated Brick (well, we both did) but we wanted to try Mojo's and Biscotti's.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Blue Fish is also great if you like live jazz.  I happen to know Angel Garcia often peforms there and he is very talented!  Orsay is also a great place for a date night!

The Zoo and Botanical Gardens, Revine Gardens in Palatka, Goldhead State Park, MOSH, Ft Caroline, Ft. Matanzas, Marineland, Cumberland Island (Ferry from Fernandina), St. Marys, Fort Clinch, Arboretum... All of these have great daytime venues, but if you watch for announcements, most of them have evening events several times a year.

Enjoy.

Hey, thanks for all the suggestions - in the end, we ended up taking a late night walk thru Riverside that ended back at Kickbacks. I think I'm addicted to their Monte Cristo.
