Title: Wonder What They'll Do For us?
Post by: Ocklawaha on November 25, 2007, 02:22:12 PM
People are funny. They came out of the woodwork to hail the opening of Charlottes new Light Rail (BLUE) line. The bus system broke down under the crush load and couldn't keep up with the LRT. Down in New Orleans, the St. Charles Streetcars are now up and running, but not before a parade! The cars rolled out and were led down the line by marching bands and throngs of people tossing beads to the passengers. Streetcars are back.

CHARLOTTE -- Opening day for the LYNX Blue Line wasn't exactly a smooth ride for a number of passengers, as many of them dealt with long lines, large crowds and long delays Saturday.
Charlotte Area Transit workers estimated about 1,500 people rode the trains each hour and that some people waited in line for up to two hours to board.
"[The crowds were] very hectic," said Reid Beaver, a passenger who waited for a train at the Carson Blvd. station. "There were a lot of people on board. It seemed a little bit difficult to get on board. But that's kind of expected the first weekend."
After exiting the light rail, a number of passengers waited in lines for buses.
"We need more buses moving faster, quicker, to get people in and out," said Noreen Clark, who waited for a bus for at least 40 minutes. "This line should no be like this."
A number of people said they wanted to take advantage of the Blue Line's free opening weekend. And despite the delays, many said they're excited about having a new way to get around Charlotte.
"I think it's wonderful. It's very nice, very clean and fast," said Elaine Hunter."It was really fun," Stephanie Fiore said. "It's surprisingly quiet and it's really speedy."
Starting Monday, passengers will have to pay for a ticket. A single-ride ticket for adults costs $1.30. Seniors and children ride for $0.65.

One wonders what they'll do if we build BRT... Will our City throw a party?

JTA will line us up in the middle of the street, ostensibly to get on those "miracle" buses, and then they'll run over us with them, of course. ;)
