Nothing sucks more than a bitter, sore loser.  They should suck it up, realize that the majority of people don't share their views and modify their position to one that is accepting of other view points.

I guess the same could be said of the sore losers in the 2000 presidential election.

I agree, the republicans were sore losers indeed, suing and getting unjunctions stopping recounts when it became obvious their candidate had lost the popular vote. Worst thing is they got away with it.

A majority of what, 1,500 people?

This is a strongly divided community and frankly no one has the upper hand.

I guess we should be thankful the two sides aren't going at it with axe handles.

If Rick Scott continues to appear in Jacksonville on a regular basis, a 2012 Democratic victory here will be assured!

All it takes is 1, let alone 1500. And IMO, the election-winner has the upper hand.

^Pretty much.  If anything, the election results make it pretty clear that the Tea Party's views aren't even mainstream in the state's GOP stronghold.  Maybe its time to compromise and come back to the center instead of going farther to the right?

No compromising there.  They will wrap their conspiracy theories around their heads so that even less reality will get in.

I don't think anyone in the tea party would hold up Mike Hogan as an ideal candidate of what they represent. Hogan was in the establishment, and none of us were too thrilled with him.

I think if you want to judge the tea party on this past election, look no further than the defeath of city council leader Jack Webb. Mark Schellenberg is a true tea party candidate, and he had the biggest upset of the night.

All this election did was show how geographically divided the city is politically. There are two Jacksonvilles, liberal in the core, conservative in the belt.

I don't think Jax is different from any other major city for the most part.  Suburbs tend to be more conservative than the core cities they feed off of.  Because of consolidation, we just happen to have a core city and suburbs within the same boundaries.  With that said, we'll always have a politically divided city.  However, no matter what side of partisan politics people fall on, I think everyone here wants a better Jacksonville where all have an opportunity to succeed and enjoy a higher quality of life.  This common goal is what should pull this community together.

I don't agree with either of you.  If the Tea party wants more support don't whine find logical arguments that back up your position.

Also the election was a strong rejection of the Tea Party much less of a rejection of conservatives.

If the city strongly rejected the Tea Party, then why did an unknown tea party candidate defeat a sitting city council president?

Because that sitting city council president was Jack Webb.

Time will tell.

Election results aside, we will soon see if this city and its leaders as well as the sheeple, get behind our new mayor and embrace the ideas and ideals put forth during the campaign. We will soon determine if Jacksonville is going to be truly colorblind and put aside the statistical gobbledygook regarding the first this and the first that of black leadership.  We will soon see if there are going to be haves and have nots in access and pecking order influence in this new administration.  We will soon see if this will be about ALL of Jacksonville or just another reincarnation of the GOB system and of individuals or certain groups hunkering down to preserve their own little piles of sh!t.

It's easy to question an election when YOUR candidate didn't win. That's how I characterize any news like this.

If he had never taken support from the tea party in the first place, Hogan might have been the winner last week.

By the end even Hogan could see that his tea party positions on schools and neighborhoods were hurting him.  So he sent out a flier claiming to support education, and he also sent out the infamous fliers to Riverside and Avondale residents.

PS - Welcome back Big Guy!
