Title: Sustainability Resource Center in Downtown
Post by: CityLife on May 20, 2011, 12:29:31 PM
This has the potential to be a very cool project in Downtown. Awesome job by the local USGBC to put this together.

"Imagine a hip, cutting edge downtown Resource Center that educates and inspires a “let’s do this” attitude from the general public, professionals, and decision makers about the triple bottom line of sustainability â€" people, planet, and profits.  A learning space where students and educators can come together to expand their knowledge of energy efficiency strategies, carbon reduction, and healthy buildings.  Where the newly-trained can meet with industry leaders to create synergies and opportunities.  Where homeowners can research green retrofits alongside architects and designers skilled in such strategies.

We envision a 5,000 square foot LEED Platinum certified space containing a gallery of innovative green building
demonstrations, a robust sustainability library, a training space, and a home base for our partner organizations.  This destination-spot will attract people from all over Jacksonville to this downtown location for special events and education programs.  The front entrance will be an attractive point of interest with living green walls, solar windows, porous pavers, native landscaping, and integrate, visible sustainable strategies.

Located at 33 West Duval Street just across the street from the Jacksonville Main Library, the location provides visibility via ample foot-traffic near the busy Hemming Plaza, access to public transportation and amenities such as restaurants, entertainment, and services."
