This morning I hold my head high and walk with pride that my city, the city I moved to more than 25 years ago, is about to take a giant step forward into the 21st Century and embrace a man, not by the color of his skin, but by the strength of his character. When Mayor-Elect Brown takes the oath of office it will mark a great turning point for his city. I only hope that the hue and cry and hand wringing I have seen in this mornings paper from those afraid of change will be drowned out by the cheers and applause of those of us who stand proud, like me, and envision a new and prosperous Jacksonville.
Off my soap box now. Everyone have a great day. ;D

Well said!
Sometimes you need to get up on a soapbox and testify! You are saying what a lot of us are feeling today.

And don't worry about the muck raked in the paper. The westside can suck it. We won.

Would you like me to re-post some of the awful things they're writing over there? It's not me who's being negative. Well, comparatively anyway. I'm sick of the partisanship, personally. At this point, yeah, I think we can all just ignore them.
I am so proud today of my fellow citizens. Just a few months ago, I never would have thought this was possible. I think our city grew up a little this week.

I guess the key is... "over there". "Over here" we generally try to be better than... "over there". :)
I will tweak the comment to my personal affect - I live on the Westside, but even I know how "they" are over here.
There will be an Alvin Brown victory celebration/gathering this morning in Hemming Park, downtown, if anyone would like to attend. 11AM.

As do I... and many republicans "over there" including your truly... voted for Mr Brown...

AMEN!
Try to ignore the first few days of sour grape losers and bad sport winners. The business of the future is at hand let's make it the best it can be.
And you can call me Sally Sunshine this morning.

wait...don't you live in Riverside? Many classify that as part of the westside!
Imagined Conversation at Chick Fil-A this morning:
"Dadgummit, Mama. Looka here. The paper says a black Democrat is gonna run the city now! The Baptist Church has lost it's hold!!!"
"Bubba, this is t'rrible news. The Gays are all over town now. Drinking is legal on Sunday. Women can vote and now this. Tarnation!"
'Let's get our trailer up to South Carolina or Colorado Springs where we can live in fundamentalist bliss with the right kinda people. Our hold on Jax is over. We gotta be free to praise the lord, fornicate with each other's wives and masturbate while thinkin' 'bout Tim Tebow in his Jockey ads in peace, praise Jesus."
'Settle down, Bubba! Rapture is in just a couple days. We're all done anyway. Eat your fries..."

Look at who elected Brown.
What an amazing thing...to have the poorest people in the city stand up and demand representation.
This isn't just about a black man who becomes mayor, this is about a group of disenfranchised people who have had their say. Urban core with its failing schools, blighted buildings, pockets of despair and neglect said "ENOUGH".
It's a beautiful thing.

Well then, I guess it's a good thing I drive thru every morning (very slow then) with Alvin, Obama, NRA, USMC and DNC party stickers on my window! I can confuse them and irritate them in one circle while I get my spicy chicken biscuit! ;D ;D

SheClown, WOW!!!
The entire core (San Marco, Riverside and Avondale included) voted for Brown.
However, can you imagine if Hogan won?? In a neat little compact area was almost all of the people who didn't support him. He would have turned his back on the core on day 1.

Didn't even have to wait for day 1, look at his awful commercial calling downtown a waste of money...
yeah. those commercials sent me over the edge!
in honor of mister hogan I'm using the sky way to get to the celebration
Those commercials sent a lot of people over the edge. I have some dear friends in the Republican country club and culture set who have never voted for a Democrat or a black man in their lives who told me that they voted for Alvin along with most of their circle of friends.

Although its also because of how useful the darned thing is. We can park at FSCJ, walk over to the skyway station and then get dropped off right in hemming park!
Or catch the bus to Rosa Park. Just sayin' ;)
Pride is definately the word. Pride is what this city was lacking. Once we change the views of our city, so will the nation. Jacksonville's on the rise. And I honestly think it wont take long.
Just got back... pretty good crowd... said my hello's to Stephen. Tough to see the new mayor though... the podiun was set way to far back into the entrance to City Hall...
Just got back to the office myself. Met a few MetroJacksonvillers there.
Leaving dinner last night I was greeted at my car by a reporter from Channel 4 News. He broke the election results to me and the next thing I know - I was being interviewed. Apparently it aired this morning and some of my conservative friends / colleagues we're ashamed of my comments :'( ;D
