Last night my roommates car window was smashed in. We live on Mallory and the parking is under the building, didn't see any other cars with damage. Not sure if anyone else has seen these break ins happening or had it happen to them recently. I've lived in the neighborhood my whole life and never had it happen. maybe I'm lucky. I'm trying to discern if it's random or not or if there's some people out there beginning to do this more. Thanks for any info.

Yes, but likely much to your chagrin, it lacks the power of your SPAR watch to condemn jaywalkers to death.
That said, it's been pretty effective so far.

There is only one section of Riverside with a active, RAP sponsored neighborhood watch. There are others with "nominal" JSO neighborhood watch programs but they mostly consist of signs on corners with no real, active membership or organization.
The RAP sponsored neighborhood watch covers what they call R-1, the boundaries of which are College St. on the South, I-10 on the North, Stockton St. to the West and Margaret St to the East. This area has active block captains and a coordinator.
The RAP Safety Committee is responsible for the neighborhood watch experimental model, R-1, and is also planning to form Commercial District watches for the Shoppes of Avondale, Park & King and 5 Points.
If you are interested in doing the hard work of forming a RAP sponsored neighborhood watch in your neighborhood, you should get in touch with Kevin Kuzel, the Chair of the RAP Safety Committee. His email address is CKuzel@aol.com.
Also, one of the activities of the RAP Safety Committee was compiling and publishing a refrigerator card of Safety Emergency Numbers, JSO, JEA, TECO, Poison Control, etc. You can pick up these cards at the RAP House on Herschel Street or at the RAP booth at RAM every Saturday.
I am hoping that Brown (if elected) can work to build a public/private consensus on the safety of patrols in the area. In other words, new policies designed to protect citizens.
