Title: Another Alvin Brown Endorsement

Semi related question:  Is there a connection between Hogan and the TPC??  Over the past few days I have seen a number of Hogan signs right next to TPC signs.  The signs are pretty big, at least 3 feet by 3 feet.

I'm wondering if this is John Delaney.  That would be HUGE!

I believe Delaney will honor his earlier pledge to stay quiet.  He's telegraphed his support for Alvin, but I don't think he moves from that posture.

Maybe its Audrey? the email says this person is a major public servant as well an advocate for education.

Not Audrey.  We'd have heard about that... (they'd never keep a lid on that news!)

My guess is Hazouri.  He spoke at the rally on Sunday, and mentioned that he had not formally endorsed anyone yet.

That actually makes more sense. But then again, I'm hopeful this will be bigger than Hazouri.

I agree.  It would make sense that it is going to be a Hazouri endorsement, especially since Mandarin is his back yard, right?

My guts tell me that it will be Audrey making her endorsement of Brown like 2-3 days before the Tuesday Election Poll. This could be a political suicide for Brown, OR a huge uprising of support that would bring turn-out to a higher number.

Mayor Tommy Hazouri is listed as the sponsor of a fundraiser for Alvin next Wednesday in Avondale.

This is funny. He's a distant cousin of mine and we share a last name. I saw this and instantly thought "what the hell? Who cares who I'm voting for?" Then I realized who you were talking about.

Yep, Hazouri has endorsed Alvin Brown.  Now on his web site.  I am hearing polls showing a statistical dead heat with Hogan with Brown rising rapidly.

This week at the beaches rotary Alvin brown hit a grand slam!! He picked up lots of votes!! One man after the meeting was shaking his head when Alvin was through. Someone asked him why he was shaking his head and he replied he early voted for hogan and knew now he made a mistake. He vowed to swing some hogan voters over to wipe out his mistake.

Another thing I like about Brown's campaign, is there has been nothing (at least that I have read, seen or heard ) from him , defaming or mudslinging his opponent.  That in itself is impressive.  Lets see how Mr. Hogan does on this particular subject through the rest of the campaign.  :)

I find it very unusual this morning that nowhere in any of the local media websites is there even so much as a small mention of yesterdays endorsement announcement. I have searched the TU, News4Jax, First Coast News and Action News websites and can not find anything. It may have been in their on air broadcasts but I don't usually watch any of them. If it wasn't for MJ I would not have even know that Tommy endorsed Mr Brown yesterday. I thought our local news stations were supposed to tell us about local news events. Or do they not consider this news? Just wondering..
Title: Re: Another Alvin Brown Endorsement
Post by: Jimmy on May 05, 2011, 08:34:22 AM
Quite true.  I got into a little back-and-forth on twitter yesterday with one of the TU's political reporters.  I wonder if the newsroom is trying to balance out the editorial staff's endorsement of Alvin Brown.  They did a post yesterday about Councilwoman Jenkins endorsing Hogan.  Well, cool, and all.  Suzanne is lovely and I'm sure Hogan is glad to get the help of a former 2-term GOP councilmember.

Mayor Hazouri has a higher profile and is a current elected official.  Crickets.

Councilman Art Shad, a two-term current councilmember, endorsed Alvin.  Crossed party lines to do it.  Crickets.

Unless I'm being unfair to local media or have somehow missed the articles.

Yeah, I haven't been thrilled with the TU's coverage of the race either. But that guess might be correct, they probably didn't want to seem in the can for Alvin. It is nice to see people wising up, though, after the runoff. Brown is clearly the stronger candidate, and the best choice for Jacksonville.

Ugh.  The one key word guaranteed to make the right-wing nutballs go, well, nutballier.  "Liberal."

Sadly, there might be a sizable demographic that won't vote for Brown because a) he's "liberal,"  b) he's a "democrat,"  and c) he's not white.

Sad.

Well... This is the first time I agree with the TU message boards.  it's surprising that the majority of the comments are in support of Brown.  Usually those guys are as far right as you can lean without busting your face.

Erin Isaac gives me the creeps.  She's so heartless and doesn't care what she has to say to defame Brown and protect Hogan.

This is pretty interesting.  Most of these Jax Business Journal polls skew very Republican/conservative.  They just introduced this poll question today, so it's early yet, but as of right now it's 60%-40% in favor of Alvin.

yeah if anybody understand anything about these polls please enlighten me.  I mean who administered the polls and at a teabagger party?  Right if a conservative group administered the polls then they are going to swing toward that side and liberal/ liberal side vice versa.  Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't buy into polls.

I don't put much stock in these polls either.  I just found it interesting, that's all.  It didn't show the results that I expected to see based on some of the other poll results I've seen on that website.  Now I've gone back and it looks like the Hogan voters are awake - it's 55-45 in favor of Hogan.  It's not as interesting to me now.  Call it a moment of 'irrational exuberance.'

Alvin definitely seems to have the momentum. Hope he can keep it rolling.

Someone I trust and respect told me recently that they are really sold on Alvin and that he has really made quite an impression on a lot of people lately. Said he is not just getting these endorsements because Hogan is so bad (though it is obviously a factor), but that a lot of people are genuinely sold on Alvin.

I like Hogan's new campaign and the spin in the Times Union, to keep it fair about Brown spending more downtown, I like the new poll with Hogan too. Looks promising, as we get to see the final stretch and who is putting up $$$ and who is putting up BS.

I hope that Audrey's confidence in herself leads her to run again.  She is the best person to lead the city.  Neither of these guys do it for me like she did (tee-hee), but I'd prefer a Brown victory.  It baffles me how Hogan's hands-off, sometimes head-sctacher of a campaign is still so effective.

A) I don't believe the latest Hogan poll to be accurate. Consider the source. It behooves Hogan to release results that overemphasize his lead, so his folks don't think their hold on the race is loosening, and to discourage Dem voters from coming out.

B) I truly do believe that the bipartisan support for Brown shows us something, both about Brown and Hogan. The TU editorial board backed him. Peter Rummell backed him. Ed Austin backed him. I find it hard to believe they would all fall in line with a candidate as liberal as Hogan's latest ads make Brown sound.

BTW, I do not believe that Alvin Brown is BSing anyone in this election.  I do believe, however, that the other candidate represents the same style of politics that our city has been forced to put up with for nearly a generation.

Interesting story from the Times Union online edition today:

"Alvin Brown sought an apology this morning from Mike Hogan for a fundraising letter mailed on Hogan letterhead that Brown said unfairly calls him a liberal and links him to President Barack Obama. But Hogan said his signature was forged on the letter and that he was unaware of its contents and had no interest in making it an issue."

I think he stands a greater chance of moving our city forward than Mr 16 pay raises will.  But then , you have always been on the GOB side M-train and that is fine.. to each their own.   Time will soon tell .. If Brown loses , I am sure you will be here gloating.. If Hogan loses , I promise not to rub it in your face.

polls are one thing.. the actual votes will tell the real story.   If my gut instinct was that Hogan was the man for the job,  I would vote for him. I don't think he is ,just as you don't think Brown is. So please...respect the position of those of us who choose to vote for Brown... no one is slamming you for voting for Hogan

What do we expect from Alvin Brown?  Do we expect his campaign to go around scraping and bowing?  Just because they believe that they have a chance does not mean that they have the same cockiness that our local GOPers have about their dominance of state and local politics.  Senator Marco Rubio coming in to campaign, in my opinion, is the equivalent of running up the score in a football game.  If Hogan is ahead by such a wide margin, bringing in Rubio is a bit over the top in my opinion.
